High Speed Setup

Our car is setup for high speed even in stock...

In autobann they "cruise" at top speed..... nothing is needed to setup but of course things like the M3 boot lip spoiler will create a 16kg more down force but u can also ask someone to sit at the back to get the same downforce....

I don know if it's such a good idea to use high temp brake pad as unlike track, where the brakes are used extensively and the temperature is maintained high, the highway is totally opposite unless u doing 2F2F throughout to Penang !

unless you're doing serious mods to your power and final drive, with what you have, you should reach the end of your speedo before you run out of power and gearing at the same time. (thats the beauty of matching the 3.46 with our auto trans, in 231bhp)

at 250kmh, stock everything is stable. your rims and tyres upgrade will help a lot, and although stock suspension will feel a little scary, it definitely will hold out. you can try to lower your car with some aftermarket suspension for some sense of security. no need to soften your shocks.

also, keep your original alignments. no need to do any toe in. stock aero is adequate, and we shouldnt feel any significant lift at all, up to 250kmh.

as for brakes, repeated stoppage from 250-say 150 will cause the disc to warp due to heat, and may take about 2-3 km before they cool back down. when they warp, your brake pedal and steering will shudder. so with stock brake rotors, just try to keep and eye on the traffic and plan your deceleration in advance.

one thing for sure, pls dont drag your car at 6000rpm 250kmh for extended periods of time.

Thanks for the advise guys! I think I have a slight idea as to what I should setup for. By the way, are there anymore track events held in this forum? Hehe sorry I'm still kinda new... So dun know the frequency or who the organiser is :wavey:

haha another addict to suffer along with the rest

bmwsg doesnt really organise track days so much nowadays, unlike in the past, for both PG and SP. what we do is tag along the track day events with Traction Circle Club. to attend their trackdays, you must be a member first. there's a $30 one time admin fee, $60 annual sub, and each trackday should cost something like $120 for early birds. trackdays are usually held monthly. they just had one last saturday.

as for PG, we need to find some guy to start the ball rolling and start jioing everybody to go down one of these days.

so far I've managed to push my E46 320 to 200kph only

First time carrying 1 80kg dude in front and 2 50+kg pax behind. Tyre pressure I suspect is as low as 182psi (coz I'm lazy) with full fuel tank. I didn't manage to see the RPM indicator but my friend told me it was below 4000 RPM which I don't have a clue.

2nd time was carrying 1 x 50+kg pax in front but didn't pushed it that hard ... hit 195kph before I saw quite a few traffic approx 1 klick ahead so had to let go the pedal.

I guess the most efficient way to achieve high top speed is to lighten up your car and increase handling and stability. Acceleration isn't that important in this case. The handling on the 320 at 200kph was superb. Steering wheel is stable, suspension i must say is abit too soft since its stock. All these in consideration that I was carrying pax.

Speeding is fine unless you know what to do when the car starts spinning and there aren't any cars.

320 with 4 x 90kg dudes with full luggage in overflowing boot, with aircon on, can hit 230kmh easy. stock standard. It was our penang trip when my car was like 2 months old.

Maybe another M3 was in front of you so you could make use of drafting to gain high speed. haha

I read the manual and it says 220 was the max. You sure with all that weight you can hit 230kph ! By the way approx. how long did it take to achieve that speed ?

till 200kmh was fairly quick. from there to top speed, about half an hour. hahahah

haha I thought so. Any idea how high RPM is gonna be ?

Eh brother... maybe its the speedo error lah... over stating the actual speed of the car.
