Re: Hi guys n gals

Yo Bro

Anyone finds that only our BMWs' tires are extremely easy to get black? it's actually due to the brake dust. i've done my homework and found that this is commonly due to the use of Nonasbestos brake pads. It's quite while braking but wear off faster than normal ones. trust me, FASTER. I also own a lexus E300. it uses ceramic types which is one of the best types for brakes.

I wonder, i paid so much for a inferior quality brakes that will need me to change in less than 6months(with the rate i'm driving, i already clocked the 2k mileage in 3wks), is BMW selling cars or their accessories? i checked that BMW also have ceramic types, but different prices(more expensive) So, for buyers like us, 325, 525 who spend more for the performance, i dun think is fair.

:huhhuh:

Re: Hi guys n gals

so u reckon whats the price difference between 'regular' brake pads n 'ceramic' brake pads?

also how do u drive ur car may i ask?

Re: Hi guys n gals

Normal days est 80 to 100 click/day.

before i drv my bmw, i'm driving my lexus. Same usage or even more. dun face the problem. chked out with other frens drving bmw, also has this issue.

Re: Hi guys n gals

asbestos free lining brake pads are more environmentally friendly and less hazardeous to human health. BMW for life..MW and Kenn say one.

Re: Hi guys n gals

There are four general types of brake pads for cars and trucks:

Semimetallic: This formula, containing about 30 to 65 percent metal, typically includes chopped steel wool or wire, iron powder, copper or graphite mixed with inorganic fillers, and friction modifiers that bond all the ingredients together. These pads are more durable and have excellent heat transfer, but also wear down rotors faster, can be noisy, and may not perform optimally at low temperatures.

Nonasbestos organic: Sometimes listed as organic or NAO, this type of pad is made from fibers, such as glass, rubber, carbon, and Kevlar, with filler materials and high-temperature resins. These pads are softer and create less noise, but they wear faster and create more dust.

Low-metallic NAO: These are made from an organic formula mixed with small amounts (10 to 30 percent) of copper or steel to help with heat transfer and provide better braking. With the added metal, there is more brake dust and they may be slightly noisier.

Ceramic: These are composed of ceramic fibers, nonferrous filler materials, bonding agents, and possibly small amounts of metal. Lighter in color and more expensive than other brake pads, ceramic pads are cleaner and quieter, and offer excellent braking characteristics without wearing down the rotors.

So from the above choices, u can see each of the type of pads possesses diff characteristics and you cant have the best for everything. BMW decides to use the NAO type of pads for low noise, easy braking at the expense of faster wear on the pads but NOT the rotors and mind you, replacement cost on rotors is far higher than the brake pads itself and not to mention the labour cost involved.

Re: Hi guys n gals

I think you are a noob making conclusions purely based on assumptions..

So u saying pml giving u replica brake pad ar? U want to complain to write to BMW AG..

Got brake dust just wash la.. stop complaining and start scrubbing

And how is that more brake dust equal to inferior parts? U get frm whr one

Re: Hi guys n gals

bro, you are soooooo correct and technically accurate. as terry said, got dust, wash la what

Re: Hi guys n gals

Ok bros,

Here comes my lousy 2 cents worth.

Bro Qiang,

BMW is all abt performance, drive and its excellent road handling. If you talk abt equipment, well it may not be as stylo mailo as Audi or Lexus, but I can speak for the rest of us Bimmerers that, it's more than adequate. How often do we use our i-drives or fondle our equipments or put our naked butt on the soft n rich leather. At least I can't remember after ignition. Its all abt the drive for BMW, which is why its call the drivers' car.

As Bro Terry said, if you don't feel comfortable with your stock brakes' dust, then you probably have to wash a little more often. If you really need performance brake then change to a caramic one. In my worthless opinion, BMW's duty is to provide a brake pad capable for local, casual & comfortable driving safety standards. It's the drivers' duty to upgrade if more demanding requirements are needed, eg tracking or constant need for 150km/h; try Brembos or ATX.

I m definetely not as profound technically as Bro Triple M's understanding of the brakes. But common sense tells me that I shl change to a better set of brakes if my stock don't meet my requirements.

IMHO, Lex don't even come close to the Bimmer when it comes to the most important part; the drive... period.

No offence Bro Qiang. Jux my 2 cents worth.

Cheers

Re: Hi guys n gals

Yo bros

Thanks for the responses.

True on Bro TripleM info on the brakes and stuffs, agree with bro Terry , bro kim and e46monster, just scrub and end of the day its just the dust. But maybe i'm still not used to the fact on the wear on tear of the pads. Hey, i'm a totally newbie to a bimmer. Anyway, thanks guys.

Anyone wanna join me wash and scrub rims??

Bro,

Wear n Tear on the pad is inevitable. Changing it is relatively cheap.

As for Rim care, you can get a Rim groomer from Autobacs, which has an element to disperse quite a fair bit of brake dust n easy cleaning n maintainence. That way, I can spend more time with wifey rather than slog with you in scrubbing.:shoot: :shoot: :shoot: :woottt: :woottt:
