My car E46 318 requires me to unlock the car first via remote before I can open the boot via the remote.

Can check if this is normal. Anyone can open the boot directly with out unlocking the car first?

Thanks

Can open boot remotely -- but mine is e90 -- not sure if same applies to e46

Mine is E46 318ci Cab. Can open the boot without unlocking the car.

Go get your car coded. Easy process.

At the same time, you can code it so that when you lock and unlock your car, the lights flash or don't flash, how long your safety lights stay on...etc. Many options available.

bro CBS,

How and where to code the remote key? My e90 remote just swop for a new one as the emblem dropped off, but all the pre-programmed functions are lost- eg radio, seats, opening sequence- first press driver's door open, second press other doors open, and thngs you described above. PML says to program all these back have to take out the entire console and book the car in for a day!

cheers,

Sorry bro, I'm not sure about E90's. But I noticed when BVO tunes E90's, Bernard actually needs to take the ECU out of the car, extract the chip and then flash. For E46's, you just plug the computer in the OBD II port and upload, much easier. So maybe it's true.

On E46's, the ECU is coded and not the key. There are 2 keys provided by BMW, and when you can program the ECU with different setting according to each each. For eg, you like the lights to flash when you lock/unlock your doors, but your wife doesn't, you can program each key accordingly.

If it's so troublesome on E90's the more you should get it done at PML for free. Such a job would surely cost outside.

I suggest you call up the usual 3rd party workshops to verify.

bro, hey long time no chat. you are right, last Sunday sat in the car for 15 mins figuring out with the manual and voila, had almost all the functions config. now can press once for driver's door open, press again for all other doors open etc etc.

the PML guys really don't know their basics man, what can I say!!

cheers,

Re: Help: Remote luggage boot opening

Hey Tommy, I had that same problem before. I used to be able to open the boot without unlocking the doors 1st TILL I left my keys in the boot.... That was embarassing.

So I asked Ah Wee to change the sequence where I have to unlock the doors before unlocking the boot, for safety sake!

Think about this angle! ;)

Cheers!

This happened to you because you are a forgetful oaf!

But anyways, you should be able to unlock the boot before unlocking the doors.
