can you post picture of how the cradle looks like?

FYI, the US model of Garmin GPS uses a different cradle than those Garmin unit bought locally, naturally if you plug the USB cable to these "US" units, they go into computer mode immediately.

Local Garmin SG unit all use the USB port to charge

the cradle is the mount on the dashboard.. the one with many male pins protruding...

Like this? Notice the "charger" is plug to the cradle and not the USB port of the unit? You'll probably need to get one of these mount & charger to use the device on another vehicle
