Heat insulation and other questions

Hi,

I was advised to install a heat insulation mat on the bonnet of my 6 yo E90 to protect the paintwork. Just wondering if this is really necessary?

Also, the 12V lighter jack is at the center console which is too far from the dashboard. Any recommendations for a workshop to install a 12V adapter below the dashboard?

I saw bro Lim's DIY camera install guide but my jack is at the center console so not sure how to tap the current.

Re: Heat insulation and other questions

I bought from eng soon and installed myself quite some time ago. So far so good but not sure if it protects the paintwork (mine artic white)!

Cost ar $120-150, but bonnet definitely not hot after driving. This should be an included item w the car originally!

Car GPS/car cam any accessories shop installer can tap onto the fuse box for you. If you DIY, can only use the ciggy adaptor.

Re: Heat insulation and other questions

i don't think the bonnet insulation mat is necessary. as long as you clean and maintain the car regularly, the paintwork should be fine.

think most workshops which does car audio should be able to do the additional ciggie socket. what are you trying to install?

i didn't update my guide, but i did another tap from the ciggie socket in the arm rest to power up my car cam mounted on the rear windscreen.

i have the bonnet insulator installed when i first got the car. good if u had this then. after so long, probably not nec unless u intend to keep it for anotr 10yrs.

No insulation, and so far so good....

Anyway, this "insulation" thingy has it's roots as an engine "fire extinguisher". When an engine fire occurs, the insulator's mounts melt and therefore the entire sheet falls onto the engine, smothering the fire by starving it off oxygen. Hopefully our car will never need something like that.

Re: Heat insulation and other questions

I have it .... makes engine bay look better ... whatever it is ... heat is not a good thing for paint.
