Gruppe M CIA

Hi all...
I am driving a 318CI 4 pot. 2002 make. I am considering to install a Gruppe M... But i was advised not to install as it will reduce the performance of my car. The top speed will increase but the acceleration will drop. The reason is being that there is too much air intake for the engine, thus slowing down the engine. How true is it??? can any one please advice?

And also i was intending to change my exhaust system to the super sprint ones. But i am now afraid that it might affect my car's performance. Cos the exhaust system is actually meant for 320,323,325... Although the guy at jeep chee said that it will increase the performance.... i ought to get some opinions from you guys....

Re: Gruppe M CIA

Don't do CAI...super loss of low end torque and you'll hate the noise (not music). I had a e46 318 4 pot and i tried more than 4 types of CAI combos on it.

Stock box works the best with K&N filter / wire mesh filter.

I used a 320 stock exhaust for mine and it worked fine........perhaps the other SS modders can advise you better.

Cheers!

Re: Gruppe M CIA

I am quite happy with the combo of drop-in K&N filter and a sebring exhaust for my E46 318i so far. Especially the exhaust sound, damn, I like it. I am not sure if it is psychologically, but really feels the power whenever I overtake and accelerate (btw, I got a sprintbooster too).

Re: Gruppe M CIA

If that is the case... What if i installed a CSL front bumper and attached a pipe from the bumper hole to the stock air intake system. Will there be any power lost?

Re: Gruppe M CIA

If heavy downpour or flood is not your concern, why stock? May be should consider CAI then. IMO a stock box wt K&N filter is good enough, enable you to drive even on any weather.

Re: Gruppe M CIA

Stick to the stock box with a KNN. Exhaust will not kill your low end by that much, and whatever is lost would at least but put to the mid/high range. For an open pod, even if it is a so called CAI, it'll probably kill your low to mid, and add half of what you've lost into >5K rpm which you probably won't get to see very often.

Try BVO's reflash. Bang for the buck in terms of performance. My first 2 tanks were 6.2-6.4km/l on a e46 320. So far it seems to be 7.5 to 8km/l, albeit trying to avoid traffic jams lately but still, mostly urban driving. Power is up by quite a bit as well as driveability. For the 1k or so, it is worth the money. By the way, it is a new and enhanced map for the ECU which allows more torque to be produced for the same amount of fuel injected and hence better power and better mileage. Just to simplify what the reflash does to the engine. :) Happy modding.
