greetings

Hi all,

I'm not exactly new to bmw (we have two "family" cars at home although i drive a tiny w204 c180) and I have been trolling this website for some time so I decided to come out of my shell and post my first thread.

I'm actually posting to get some advice. And since i can't seem to post anywhere else, I guess here would do.

i'm split between an E92 335/325i and an Audi A5/S5.

So far I've come up with the following reasons to get each:

E92:

Slightly better fuel economy
Innumerable modding possibilities (angel eyes, CF spoiler lid/wing mirror, quad exhaust)
Good Handling
High OMV

BUT

it's a little common / looks a bit outdated
335 costs the same as an S5 even though the S5 is on a v8, 4.2 engine

A5/S5:

Powerful engine. S5 is faster than the 335 in a straight line
Good looks especially with the DRL!!
Nice interior
S5 comes with quad exhaust

BUT

handling/steering is a little light
Low OMV

I know this is a BMW forum and all but I hope to get an honest/unbiased opinion if possible : ))

In summation, I look forward to learning from all of you as much as getting "poisoned". lol

Re: greetings

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the E92! :)

Re: greetings

lol. I don't actually have an E92. I'm just looking around trying to figure out how much everything would cost with mods and all. but thanks for the welcome! : )

Re: greetings

Well, my brother is considering very seriously the S5 and both of us took the S5 out for a test drive with my 335i back to back and came back with some comments:

335i
1. More mod potential
2. More a driver's car than the S5. Sharp handling and weighty steering feel.
3. Exhaust is louder (exhaust really louder or less soundproofing, not sure)
4. Slightly more ex, S$248,888 but higher OMV at S$71,000)
5. RWD, more fun.

Audi S5
1. BIG! Makes my 335i look damn puny, esp's the S5 rear quarters
2. Lots of buttons! Fully loaded. I think only 6 more options left in the option page.
3. Nice MMI and funky reverse camera
4. Boot is deep but shallow
5. Driving is muted, can't hear the exhaust from the cabin, even though I redline the bugger. Had to wind down the windows to hear the V8. :)
6. Steering's vague and very light, not used to such light steering.
7. Slightly cheaper at S$245,000 (OMV: S$64,000)
8. Nice quad exhaust and the LED front lights is damn cool.
9. 5-6mth waiting time!
10. AWD, more assuring
11. Interior is real nice and the seats are just awesome!

Stock to stock, the S5 will beat the 335i in a straight line. BUT with a bit of fairy dust, the 335i can hold its own against the S5. There isn't much for the S5, bodykit wise in Singapore but if u search overseas, there are more stuff. Less stuff to mod on the S5 because it comes with almost everything! :)

Cheers!

Re: greetings

audi has improved interior alot, look very cool... but still like 335i after see Ken, Omar & Azrielsc 355i mods..

Re: greetings

Yeah. That's very true. But i'm hoping the coming E92s will get the updated idrives as well--in which case, the interior/entertainment system of the E92 would be comparable to Audi.

Re: greetings

I can't offer an unbiased opinion so I'll just say - welcome to the forum!! :D

Re: greetings

Well, the upcoming E92 will be getting the newer Idrive as well as the DCT transmission. Heard the S5 is also coming out with a better tiptronic. But I guess u will be looking at the mid to end of next year?

Re: greetings

haha welcome to bmw.sg dude

e92 335i for the drive, power and mods.
audi s5 for the looks and class.

i'll go for the e92 335i. haha

Re: greetings

Thanks guys. btw, does anyone know if PML would supply the M-Tech body kit as well (and how much!!)? Or do you have to mod it yourself elsewhere.

Re: greetings

PML is able to indent it in for u, at a much elevated price. Go get it from Eng Soon and sprayed/installed at any workshop u like.

Re: greetings

as unbiased as i can be which is not possible cuz my body is with vag and my soul is here...

if you're looking for a good car which you don't want to do much, the S5 makes an excellent stock. but of course, with enough research, you'll know you can do alot more to the car. it's more executive and stealthy...

the e92 is a beauty... i have to disagree with the dated look as i think it would be one of those cars that would hold it's look very well. It's an attempt to reverse the bulky e90 look and revert the sleek e46 look... love it! like you said, the mod potential is there... just look at some of the well modded 335s here, absolutely sweet. the handling is more hands on... well, just cuz it's not a V engine, doesn't mean it's any lesser in terms of ability.

Re: greetings

Agreed. Going to try the 335i this weekend so we'll see how that goes.
:)
On a separate note, I'm currently salivating over elmariachi's SG 335i and thought about how it would be much easier if we could somewhat consolidate all the photos into a single forum or thread (I know we have a forum for it but no one seems to be really posting it there? Or is there somewhere else i should be looking at?)

Re: greetings

you'll love it if you're into a driver's car...

as for elmariachi's car's pics... haha... oh well, it's tough to get everyone to upload but if you were to search under photoshoots, you might find some nice pictures.

Re: greetings

Thanks for the tip!

Since the facelifted E90 is rumored to be coming to s'pore in Oct, would it be possible that E92 in the same build month would similarly be fitted with the updated i drives? I hope that's the case. lol.

Re: greetings

IMO, the E92 is one of the best looking cars around.
If i did not have to have a child seat, it would definitely be my drive now ;-)

I know of a forummer who had to fit in 2 child seat... Don't think it should hinder your decision.

Paging for Tobynik!

Re: greetings

Fitting in is no issue, carrying the kiddie in & out & buckling in as fast as possible is the pain.
anyway, maybe in a few years when dont need the special chair (throne) any more then can seriously consider

When you said "buckling in as fast as possible", I could so feel your pain... Well, you get your bundles of joy in another way I guess...

Haha ... better than some "big babies" long long ago when I had a 2-door who always ask for ride, but then complain about how inconvenient it is to get in & out ... slap slap
