Goodyear Eagle featuring ResponsEdge Technology radials are Grand Touring All-Season tires developed to enhance the capabilities of sport coupes and sedans. The Eagle ResponsEdge is designed to offer year-round traction on dry, wet and lightly snow-covered roads, while delivering a blend of responsive handling and comfortable ride qualities that allow drivers to feel the road, not the rumble.

Eagle ResponsEdge tires feature an asymmetric tread design with solid shoulder blocks and a continuous intermediate rib on the outboard portion to improve responsiveness and cornering stability, while diagonal aquachutes, deep shoulder grooves and TredLock sipes on the inboard portion enhance foul-weather traction. The asymmetric tread design is completed through the use of dual-zone tread compounds with a high-grip sport compound on the outboard portion and a high silica content all-season compound on the inboard portion.

The tire's structure includes twin steel belts cushioned by Goodyear's InsuLayer of spirally wrapped Kevlar®. Polyester body plies also feature an asymmetric design with a carbon fiber reinforced outboard sidewall to enhance responsiveness and cornering stability while providing flexibility to cushion the ride.

Eagle ResponsEdge tires feature sidewall styling that combines subtle black letters with a serrated band and use Goodyear's PermaBlack Compound Additive to maintain a new tire-like appearance throughout the life of the tire. Eagle ResponsEdge tires feature an alloy wheel rim protector

Re: Goodyear Eagle RESPONSEDGE

i think this is not a performance tyre as it says Grand Touring All-Season..but should be a good choice for everyday driving..thanks for sharing!

Re: Goodyear Eagle RESPONSEDGE

Yeah but the techology sounds promising - good to see someone like Goodyear taking technology and pricing to a new level, for the good of all consumers. Would like to see the Michellin's and Pirelli's lower their pricing now with some competition.

The GRAND TOURING for Sports Sedans bit - does it mean that this is suitable for one who drives aggressively but don't track ? I'm sure road conditions are tougher in the US/Europe, even compared to the NS Highway we have here.

On the other hand, when do you think does the Ultra-High Performance tyres of an overkill ?.

Re: Goodyear Eagle RESPONSEDGE

How many seasons are there in Singapore?

I'll stick with summer tires.

Re: Goodyear Eagle RESPONSEDGE

Not sure about the US, but when I stayed in the UK/France for a year, their summer is hot and dry. And even if it rained, it is nowhere near tropical rain and water sheeting on our roads. I

f you look at it this way, Singapore's tropical weather is more like two seasons not one.:)

Re: Goodyear Eagle RESPONSEDGE

i'll have to agree with tanzy on taking summer tyres...im sure the Responsedge will come in summer form as well...for daily driving almost all tyres are good enough...but i guess when you buy a sportier car like bmw you might be tempted to drive a bit harder and faster so UHP tyres are always a good investment!

Re: Goodyear Eagle RESPONSEDGE

oomph,

Operating temperature is crucial to the performance of a tire compound. All weather tires have compounds optimised for a wide range of temperature whereas summer tires are for generally hotter climates, thus more narrow operating temperatures. I tend to view wide temp range compounds as a compromise. Even if it does rain in Singapore, the temperature goes to low 20s but an all weather tire might be expected to perform at near 0.

Re: Goodyear Eagle RESPONSEDGE

Operating temp - that's a good point.

I guess it seems that the tropical weathers - heavy rains and consistently high ambient temperatures - is in itself a category that's not specifically met by tyre manufacturers.

What do you think about this:

Performance tyres or summer tyres

Performance tyres are designed for faster cars or for people who prefer to drive harder than the average consumer. They typically put performance and grip ahead of longevity by using a softer rubber compound. Tread block design is normally biased towards outright grip rather than the ability to pump water out of the way on a wet road. The extreme example of performance tyres are "slicks" used in motor racing, so-called because they have no tread at all.

All-round or all-season tyres
These tyres are what you'll typically find on every production car that comes out of a factory. They're designed to be a compromise between grip, performance, longevity, noise and wet-weather safety. For increased tyre life, they are made with a harder rubber compound, which sacrifices outright grip and cornering performance. For 90% of the world's drivers, this isn't an issue. The tread block design is normally a compromise between quiet running and water dispersion - the tyre should not be too noisy in normal use but should work fairly well in downpours and on wet roads. All-season tyres are neither excellent dry-weather, nor excellent wet-weather tyres.
