Better for E90 320 to use smaller tyres - too wide will slow acceleration.

Anyway just my 5 cents worth.

There are definitely pluses and minuses for using wider tyres. Wheel fitment issues aside, there are positive aspects of using wider tyres.

All things being equal, the critics will cite increased tyre weight, higher inertia, rolling mass/resistance, ride comfort, and even change in speedo accuracy....

However, the exact performance is not known for a 225 to 245 increase. Would the 0-100 drop by 0.5 seconds? I think not, though I have no data to prove.

The key benefit of wider tyres is traction, and this should offset any minor setbacks from the negatives, IMO. Straight line and around corners. This requires no explanation. The lesser sidewall flex is another plus, which will increase cornerning ability. Also, wider tyres may decrease braking distances on dry pavement. I think these benefits are undeniably part of "sheer driving pleasure" rather than minimising fuel consumption.

Upsize 1 level should be fine. Which is what the TS is doing.

id say, after spending that kind of money on a bimmer, dont leave it like an altis. pls abuse and whack the living daylights out of her, and big rims to a bimmer is like C cupper on a babe. Will she complain of it being heavy and affecting her balance?

Re: Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2

Can pm me the contact for the tyres shop

Re: Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2

Autobac is offering 245/40R18 at $298 each, worth looking tough this is good for E90, 1% too small for F30 but it will improve the handling definitely.

Show me or rather have u seen the many drags using small tyres? Go look at all the weekend drags in US, Europe, Auz, Jap... and u will realise, the key is also traction i.e. less surface = less tarmac contract = less power to tarmac traction. The initital lost of hundredths of second will be recovered or superceded by the later 'better traction'.

Also on the extreme side, u saw those power funny RWD cars? Their RWs r wide although their front wheels are similar to bicycle's tyre wide. All about traction.

Thus IMHO, wider tyre over stock is better than smaller/narrower over stock, of course within sensible dimension otherwise will be non-LTA compliant Monster Truck... i meant Monster Car 8)

Don't forget most increase width for looks as well. Would go for wider tyres but need to consider weight as well. Eg, recently replaced mine but could have gone for another 10mm wider but that would add 2kg each (affecting unsprung weight) plus also introduce meatier look. Also need to consider ratio to front tyres if tyre setup not square

Change my wheels to 245/40-R18 for my F30 335. Quiet, sure footed, comfy, and great cornering!

I just changed to f1a2 too from pss. Overall quite comparable with pss but much cheaper!

Re: Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2

Also on F1asy2, used for abt 15000km.still quiet and really good in the wet and cornering is really shiok.
