Fairer way to tacklu illegal parking...

Re: Fairer way to tacklu illegal parking...

Issue may lies with the enforcer?

Re: Fairer way to tacklu illegal parking...

It is definitely written to be politically correct. Bluntly and no offence... it is directed at the muslims where it is true to a large extend.

All illegal parking during prayer times near a Mosque (especially housing estates) will not warrant any booking for illegal parking*. On the other hand near venues of worship of other religions, illegal parking will most likely get u a summon, more often then not.

Thus, the writer is just seeking fair treatment with regard to illegal parking during religious pray times i.e. either don't book or book all regardless of religion.

* I know of a few venues where u can witness illegal parking on both sides of the road where 2 lanes becomes 1 (during prayers times)... and by the law of the road, all are illegal park. Again I say, no offence intended, lets be objective because it is about fair and equal to all religion.

True. The Traffic Police should also tackle the many the motorcyclists who ride off the road and park on the pavements. Otherwise, they lose the respect of the people for being sloppy and unjust. It also seems illegal parking along roads at most places are tolerated as the Polce Cars just cruise past without taking any action unless there is a complaint. In the meantime, we are no where near First World as the law is applied unevenly.

I have witnessed cars double parked on double yellow line road outside a mosque on Friday, resulting in the obstruction of two lanes. During which, a few uniformed LTA enforcement agents were seen walking out of the mosque and leaving on their LTA motorcycles.
I always give them the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps they were being nice and went in to the mosque to tell the owners to clear their vehicles, but who knows right?

Re: Fairer way to tacklu illegal parking...

I agree. There's a WIDE disparity between what's I read under the law and what I see applied in real life

Re: Fairer way to tacklu illegal parking...

Sensitive lah this kind of topic.... however euphemistically or diplomatically phrased. I'd like to see the garhmen respond to that letter, yes indeed.

Re: Fairer way to tacklu illegal parking...

A few years ago, I argued against these illegal parkers near some places of worship (not temples or churches) with reference to a summon I received for parking at a quiet road on a Sunday morning. I lost.

There is definitely a bias.

Go see your MP and see wht he/she has to say about this issue. Although this is rather sensitive but the system has to be fair to all. If not we are not what we are but just another boleh country.

Re: Fairer way to tacklu illegal parking...

brudder, dun play color ley..... maybe there r no carparks near mosque?!?! to be fair, actually, during 7th month n big dates (for temples) usually many cars will be parked illegally also, but no summonses issued unless neccessary (obstruction caused). but that one is once in a blue moon lah. we got fridays every week..... n i believe hdb/ura have carparks all over singapore (walking distance to wherever).... or encourage park n walk/ ride........ i had to park at geylang lor 3 (hdb carpark) n walk to lor 18, just for the chicken rice, as there was simply no legal parking space anywhere nearer.... but damn, it was worth it!

Re: Fairer way to tacklu illegal parking...

I sure would like to hear their response..... it's been an issue for the longest time!

Re: Fairer way to tacklu illegal parking...

But but, bros, just a humble word of advise - this kind of issue is really a bit sensitive one... sedition laws may apply, if not careful hor...

You already know the Propaganda Times is actively monitoring our postings here (cue Sherman's name being mentioned as the Felali unker driver who got hooted by the bunch of weekday illegal youth parkers), so we should really watch our back because big brother is watching us...

Sedition law applies only if any posting is intended to incite racial disharmony or calculated to incite disruption of the peace or disunity, whether social, political or religious.

I believe if we honestly raise senstive issues not to stir but to invite an academic empirical evidence based discussion, then sedition does not apply.

Eg:

Why is it I see many illegal parking outside mosques on Fridays but no LTA enforcement? Tats not sedition

But if u add in "....but I see wardens busy issuing summons against illegal parkers outside XXX church every Sunday?" Tats sedition

The 1st question is an innocent question based on observation

The 2nd question implies preferential treatment and may incite religious disharmony

All hail MW. Defender of free speech & of Ah-Neh hooting BoTay...

Re: Fairer way to tacklu illegal parking...

i can take picture every week from my office window... one kilometer of illegal parking, nobody bothers...
also the jams is so bad as the road left one lane for buses & cars.... horn also no use. Good luck.

I ever sent a appeal letter to HDB saying why fine me on a big day of chinese new year by a parking warden working on holiday, they LL waive off.

Re: Fairer way to tacklu illegal parking...

Threading along racial and religious lines, very tricky.

I recalled news forums discussing (1) burning of joss sticks and incense/papers as a pollution issue (2) noises from funeral/wedding possessions. All proved to be rather myopic insofar as community living is concerned.

If one has to play by the book, should call police whenever there are funeral wakes in private estates. But, is that over insensitive?
