It happens to me recently and my 520 is only 3 monyhs old. I sent it to MA and it was indicated in the computer that the mechantronic is faulty. indent is about 3 weeks. without warranty it costs about $4,000. It suppose to be the brain of the gearbox. Better get it change if still under warranty.

Westwood, was there any error message in the iDrive?
It just happened to me 1 hour ago..... I got a shock as i rev my throttle, heard only the engine sound but car not moving. Realised the car is in 'P' mode!
And I am pretty sure I didn't touch the gear stick....
Will monitor and if it happens again, will bloody call my SE and PML up and give them a shelling!!
BTW, my car is only 4 weeks old!

Hi flyboy,
there is no indication on the idrive. you only know when you step on the accelerator and found that your car cannot move. I used for the time being with the auto-stop off and this seems to solve the problem. But with this when you reverse, the gear sometimes will jump to park P. Try to get the MA people to indent the mechactronic first as the car computer will keep note of the faults and they will know whether it is faulty. Cheers

For mine, it happens only during start/stop function. When the car already "off" in start/stop function, it's still in D but when the car start by itself before u release the brake, it will jump to P. but if the car stop till u release the foot brake then it won't jump to P. try monitoring it as mine is like tat.

Bro...
I get my mechantronic replace already. Also there is a new version of software updated. Now my drive is smooth...shiok!!! Never feel so smooth before since the day I collected my car.
Those bros who experience this, I think ur mechantronic is faulty. If during start/stop, the engine restart by itself and if the gear change to P, ur mechantronic is gone. Get it replace as still under warranty and u dun feel any jerk or lack in acceleration anymore. Drive is also as smooth as silk...

U can check if u accelerate will there be throttle delay (pressing accelerator but no power for abt 1sec then suddenly power just come in). Hopefully urs come with the new software update. Sometime when u depress ur accelerator harder, the car moves like u sitting on a horse. I think all these is due to the faulty mechantronic.
I brought my car into pml less the 2wks after collecting for check but they cannot find any fault. until the start/stop function shows the fault then they manage to diagnose the problem.

I had some issues with the start/stop function and gear change. When the car restarts in the start/stop function, there was a jerk. This surfaced after 1 month. Gear change from 1 to 2 and 2 to 1 were also jerky at times. I stopped using the start/stop function for a week and the problem went away but I still bought the car in to pml. They could not find anything wrong after the test drive and the full system diagnostics. As for the gear shift jerks, they advised to run in the car to 7500km and will upgrade the software at 10000km, mentioned that the gear shift jerks are unavoidable on a 4 cylinder??? The guy also told me that the start/stop function is not practicable for Asian climate and that the function works on a series of variables which make it rather complicated and so suggested that I don't use it. So poh bian, just continue driving it and see how.

Really hate the start-stop function. I actually don't see the point. With the start-stop on, my 520 still consumes a shocking 17l/100 km of gas, I read it was supposedly to only consume 6-7l. Glad that the stupid function can be override, but they should have set it to off as the default.

My gear change at 3-2-1 when slowing down to traffic light was very jerky when I first got the car. After about 1000km, the jerks got less frequent. Now at 2000km it only does it once in a while.
