What piangz, $500 per side!!!! I only know the #35 side door speakers direct from BMW through AD cost $80+ each before GST and labour charges, how can a front tweeter be more expensive than the front side speakers? Did they quote so high to discourage people from buying and their effort to install?

They told me the tweeter cums wif the whole plastic cover of the glass door.

Re: Excessive charges by workshops in Singapore?

You must be kidding me right? Complaining over $10?

why don't you buy your own engine oil, your own brake disks, your own everything and then service your car yourself?

will save a ton of money like that...

pls read the title of this thread, and take note of the word "EXCESSIVE".

Hey guys I have a F10 520i and was looking to upgrade my sound system but wanted to upgrade to original BMW speakers (Top HIFI system-Professional)-this comes in 535i and above. I enquired at the Singapore workshops for front 2 speakers and front 2 tweeters and rear 2 speakers and rear 2 tweeters(This is not the full setup as the full set up has 16 speakers, the upgrade I did increased my car system from 6 speakers to 10 speakers). I wouldn't disclose the price I was quoted but I felt it was ridiculously high.

I decided to do some research on my own and discovered a website called getbmwparts.. This website sells original BMW parts and I found the speakers I was looking for. So in the end I purchased the speaker (8 Speakers) for a total of SGD 800 (Including shipping to Singapore from US). I just installed the speakers on my own which took me about 2 hours and was a fairly simple process.. The sound in my car is just SO SO much better after this upgrade and I couldnt have asked for more!!

I understand that people running workshops need to cover labor+overhead charges but charging more than 3-4 times the price I feel is just not right. Also when I enquired about the 2013 professional navigation map update I was quoted much much more than what I paid to get it done in Malaysia. When I went to KL I got the map update disk and the FSC code for just SGD100. There cannot be a huge variation in the prices between SG and Malaysia just because of the currency exchange rates as the FSC codes have a standard fixed price.
Just wanted to share my experience withe fellow forum members. Have a great weekend ahead!

Re: Excessive charges by workshops in Singapore?

if you know the part no, you can search by part no at getbmwparts
if you don't know the part no, you can go to realoem and view parts by selecting your car model
then copy and paste the part no at getbmwparts.com
they are many parts for different model and different range
so you must be very clear what you are getting else the part that you ordered is not compatible with your car
DIY is not for everyone and you must have the necessary technical knowledge and passion to do-it-yourself else leave it to the pro and pay a "fees" for their service

this is just an example only hor ... may not be the parts for your car

Re: Excessive charges by workshops in Singapore?

I think we need to look at this excessive or maybe expensive services/margins holistically.

As consumers, we will always demand a fair price if not the lowest possible price to buy without sacrificing the goods quality.

As sellers, we will always demand a fair price if not the highest possible price to sell without losing a customer.

just look at it when we buy/sell properties, isn't it obvious? who doesn't want a super high selling price for the property that we are trying to let go? Who doesn't want a super cheap fire sale for the property that we are trying to buy?

Every business has overheads, rents, salaries, marketing funds and whatnot - It's a commercial trade. we can always go another shop, another avenue to get what we want. Heck, we can even invent things that we are not happy with paying for.

Those shops that charges super high prices, when their competitors offers a fair price with the same or better service, definitely the market will reward the competitors. Unless that shop is the only shop who dares to venture and try on new stuffs/ methods and introduce new offerings and command a high price in this case, we call it premium and not excessive.

Commodities prices are regulated to a certain extent. High end cars and products which are clearly wants driven, are not. So we do our own research and compare prices before parting with our own hard earn money. No one else is to blame other than ourselves when we clearly have a choice.

Just my thoughts. Businesses have no conscience, it is not a living thing. So don't expect it when you go shopping.

Re: Excessive charges by workshops in Singapore?

I hope the quotation is not from EleBest, but bros and sisters might think that EleBest quote you "excessive" price. I did not notice this thread until one of my friend call me: "how much you quote for top Hifi system? Got one guy posting you quote him $3k+, then complain in the forum". "Oh, really? We never quote such price leh."

Then we re-checked the PM sent folder, found "BMW Forever", we quoted a price of Hifi (NOT TopHIFI) speakers at 12:03pm on the day of 21 June, then TS post this on the day of 22 June 2pm+. Only one day, not possible to do "study" first, then bought from US, then get them installed, post a loooong story here.

We don't know who you are, what you try to do. but we just don't want anything negative put on EleBest because of any non-real fact. Ignore this reply, if you are not talking about our quotation. Thanks.
