Excessive charges by workshops in Singapore?

Hey guys I have a F10 520i and was looking to upgrade my sound system but wanted to upgrade to original BMW speakers (Top HIFI system-Professional)-this comes in 535i and above. I enquired at the Singapore workshops for front 2 speakers and front 2 tweeters and rear 2 speakers and rear 2 tweeters(This is not the full setup as the full set up has 16 speakers, the upgrade I did increased my car system from 6 speakers to 10 speakers). I wouldn't disclose the price I was quoted but I felt it was ridiculously high.

I decided to do some research on my own and discovered a website called getbmwparts.. This website sells original BMW parts and I found the speakers I was looking for. So in the end I purchased the speaker (8 Speakers) for a total of SGD 800 (Including shipping to Singapore from US). I just installed the speakers on my own which took me about 2 hours and was a fairly simple process.. The sound in my car is just SO SO much better after this upgrade and I couldnt have asked for more!!

I understand that people running workshops need to cover labor+overhead charges but charging more than 3-4 times the price I feel is just not right. Also when I enquired about the 2013 professional navigation map update I was quoted much much more than what I paid to get it done in Malaysia. When I went to KL I got the map update disk and the FSC code for just SGD100. There cannot be a huge variation in the prices between SG and Malaysia just because of the currency exchange rates as the FSC codes have a standard fixed price.
Just wanted to share my experience withe fellow forum members. Have a great weekend ahead!

Yes, there could be great discrepancies for some of these prices.
I will not mention names but what I do is I won't buy from them. Period.

Re: Excessive charges by workshops in Singapore?

If you know what, where and how you can save quite a bit. Just like how I replaced my aircon filter for $60 from stockist instead of $200 which my workshop wanted.

Re: Excessive charges by workshops in Singapore?

It always makes sense to do some research before committing. Yes I agree some workshops do charge the sky especially if they think you are a noob.

Re: Excessive charges by workshops in Singapore?

In the video he removes the door wiring to remove the entire door panel...but we dont need to do that..in the video he states that the particular process is only for guys who wish to add door insulation.

Re: Excessive charges by workshops in Singapore?

Greed! I brought my previous ride to a workshop at Bukit Merah Lane (services BMW) and was charged excessively. Adding this & that, plus labour charges similar to PML price. My fault for not asking the f**ker to itemized individual price before shop worked on my car. What to do but to pay up? Never again would I ever set foot in that stupid shop again.

Best to read this forum for feedback on shops and go to one with lots of good comments.

Re: Excessive charges by workshops in Singapore?

Went for my normal servicing and change out the aircon filter .... to my horror I was charged $10 on the labour. I could have change it myself in 30 secs free ..... Nb blood suckers ...

Re: Excessive charges by workshops in Singapore?

buy parts online and DIY is the best. no one can beat this

Bro,u really great man.... i dun even dare diy anything. I did ask abt my front tweeter frm pml also. Said dun hv my model... so nid order n price is at $500 per side n nt including labour. I juz walk off
What piangz, $500 per side!!!! I only know the #35 side door speakers direct from BMW through AD cost $80+ each before GST and labour charges, how can a front tweeter be more expensive than the front side speakers? Did they quote so high to discourage people from buying and their effort to install?

U mean u expect free labour from them? They can say yes, then adjust the filter price upwards by $10. End up the same :)
