Engine Oil Top up every 800km

i recently did up all the oil leaks and engine oil consumption got really bad.

Its 1 litre every 800km travelled.

I changed the engine oil level sensor also.

Still its the same.

My mileage: 121,000km

I checked the following, no white smoke from exhuast nor wet goey stuff at the exhuast tailpipes.

Im using liquid moly 5w30 oil.

I noticed that engine oil loss will be faster if I rev the engine higher more often. Does valve seal leak more engine oil when doing high revs? Or does worn piston rings have such characteristics?

Anyone has any idea before i send car into another workshop?

Try to use thicker oil like 10w50. Should improve a bit but look like need to overhaul the engine liao. Maybe piston wear out.

Re: Engine Oil Top up every 800km

Use a higher temp oil, e.g 0W40. Worked for me.

I will try to use a thicker oil. But I was told by my workshop that Valve seals might be leaking. If Piston rings are gone, then car would feel sluggish. I feel its the same though.

Ok, thanks alot, will try using a thicker oil and see how things goes.

Re: Engine Oil Top up every 800km

I had the same problem on my e46. No workshop can detect problem.
I changed to a thicker oil and it improved slightly to 1L every 2km.

But I never sell the car locally, I exported it. I bro.

Re: Engine Oil Top up every 800km

Having the same problem. Top up every 1000km.
Workshop quote me 3-4k for repair. But told me to just buy thicker oil top up will be cheaper. Else go back for free top up...
Sigh...
Let me know if u solve the problem cheaply.... Hehe

The workshop advise to do it when it get really bad in future... Now tahan first lor
Mine 05 car. Drive another 3years can scrap liao. So if i top up oil twice a month, still work out to be cheaper than repairing it. ...

I mean 1L every 2000km after changing to thicker oil. U tao hua face.

Btw someone posted ur car in FB. Run lion tio caught.

Re: Engine Oil Top up every 800km

Thicker oil should help. Use w50. I've switched from w30 to w40 from 80,000km and to w50 when reached 100,000km, but changed to thicker oil to quieten the hydraulic tappers rather than high oil consumption. Car now is more than 116,000km and oil consumption is 0.75 litre every 11,000km (when below 80,000km, it used to consume less than 0.5 litre for every 15,000km). I usually go change oil when oil is low by 0.5-0.75 litre, i.e. around every 10,000km interval.

Re: Engine Oil Top up every 800km

go autobac buy STP oil $6.50 or something , pour inside, then use thinker engine oil... my ex ride 450,000km also at least 3000km per litre.

Re: Engine Oil Top up every 800km

Delrosa,

Mine is also burning oil. Used to top up 1ltr every 2000-3000km depending on my driving style. I noticed that the harder i drive the faster the oil burn off. Initially i switched to 5W-50 oil, it did help. Recently it began to become thirsty again. I've given up and always have a bottle of engine oil in my boot in case warning light pop up. Try sniffing your car's exhaust fume. If it smells funny (kinda like plastic burning) then very likely oil is burning off.

So ur car is just a pipe for the engine oil to file through.

Re: Engine Oil Top up every 800km

Dear all,

Thanks for your advises, I will go try out everyone's remedies and see how things goes.

BTW noticed a "gunpowder" smell from my exhuast last night. I understand from google that gunpowder smell usually signifies oil being stuck at the catalytic converters and it might already have been damaged. But that was after some spirited driving. Didnt see any white smoke nor smell any gunpowder smell from the exhuast this morning.

Am monitoring.

Thanks everyone!
