Engine oil sensor

Has anyone changed their engine oil sensor on E90? If yes, what is the mileage and age of your ride when you changed it?

Gurus,

Need your advise on this one. When we do engine oil level test, we have to stop our ride with the engine running right? If correct , that means the actual oil level could be higher because some engine oil is still circulating in the engine and cooling system. Maybe I could be totally wrong. Please help. :huhhuh:

Re: Engine oil sensor

Mine gave out cranky readings around 80,000 km mark, that resulted in me overfilling the oil... enough said. Probably, changed during one of the warranty services. You can read the oil level anytime. No need to check unless you suspect oil leak.

Pengful,

Thanks for sharing your experience. Few days ago, the low engine oil warning light came up. The display showed oil level below the "MIN" mark. Funny thing is I top up only slightly over 1 litre of oil and the oil level went up to 3rd quarter full. I suspect could be the sensor faulty because I could not spot any oil stains on the floor (I usually parked at the same lot).

My last service (change engine oil and also all the o-ring that need to be replaced) was done sometime mid May. Mileage travelled since then was about 2,000km. If oil level was really below minimum after 2,000 km then the leak should be easily spotted by inspecting the engine bay. Anyway will send my ride in to BMS tomorrow for a thorough check.

Yep, sounds like faulty sensor to me.

Re: Engine oil sensor

I suspected oil leak because i kept topping up until going to overflow liao and the reading still shows half. Went PML and got sensor replaced.

A week later, maid screamed at me bcos oil leak onto garage. Small patch but enough for me to go crazy too. Took a photo and showed to PML. Banged table a little and got many parts changed.

Mileage was about 55k. Claimed during warranty. Car left there for 2 days.

Mine was probably a slow leak and maybe faulty sensor. Have been very paranoid and check oil level every time I drive to office and back home. So far no leak. Anyway had sent in my ride for a check. Maybe mext time should place a mahjong paper under the car. Should there be minor leakage we can tell straight away.

BTW, whr is the oil stick to check engine oil level or solely depend on sensor?

If you are claiming against PML, must bring evidence. Mahjong Paper or photograph. They have a habit of saying 'got meh?'. It happened to me and i showed them the photo on my handphone.

Out of warranty. Workshop out there should be as good or better than PML I guess. Will keep you guys updated once the oil leak is solved.

the bars on your idrive show the top 1L of engine oil in your engine. so if it drops to the last bar, you've lost abt 1L of engine oil.

Whocares,

Thanks for the info. I assume you are referring to the LCD screen below the speedometer because my ride do not come with the iDrive (center console). Anyway I'll drive for another 2,000km and monitor the oil level. So far oil level has been full (touchwood).

Yup, I'm referring to the 1 on idrive but it shld not differ too much from the display on the instrument panel.

The display on the instrument is also split into 5 segments between Max and Min, just that it shows up as 1 continuous bar 8)

Re: Engine oil sensor

Argh..... Engine oil level still drop and need to top up every 2,000km despite no oil stains underneadth. Wiper fluid also leaking. Spotted new coolant stains again. :( Now my ride being checked and serviced by Rod. Will update what went wrong.

My e90 engine oil level also dropped around 3 bar for 4km milage but I only notice this when I change the engine oil viscosity from 40 to 30 ... and I do frequent high rev... I wonder if these two reasons are the cause of it...

Possible. If you use oil viscosity 40 would maintain the engine oil level then stick to it.
