Edmunds.com puts the new C-Class against BMW's 335i Sedan

Re: Edmunds.com puts the new C-Class against BMW's 335i Sedan

Putting the C350 against 335i is a very strange pairing.
On the surface, they look close as being the top end of their respective lines and 3.5 litre engine vs. 3 litre twin turbo also seems pretty much in the ballpark. They are, however, VERY different animals.

I have driven the new C350 before committing to my current 335i sedan. Frankly, there is no comparison. If you like to DRIVE, you will not want to have the C350. In comparison the engine of the C350 is very rough, the gearbox is hectic and the sound leaves a lot to be desired. The suspension, though miles ahead of the previous C-class model, still does not compare to that of a 335i, especially if the latter is fitted with M-suspension (standard in Singapore). The sharp and accurate handling of the 335i has recently amazed me on a trip to Cameron Highlands. Driven in manual mode with the steering wheel paddle shift, all the electronics (DSC etc.) to OFF I can hardly imagine more fun than the 335i.

After I ordered my 335, I tried to poison a hiadee into buying one so we went to PML(eventually he bot a 523 though). During our test drive, 3 pax in the 335 coupe, a C class 350 was also on test drive. We launched at traffic junction together, the C350 had no chance. I think it had like 300NM of torque on the C350? The stock 335's 400NM made a lot of diff. Even with 3 fat arses in the 335, it was way quicker

It's unfortunate that the Merc demo car for the C350 does not come with the Dynamic suspension. Only the C200 has dynamic suspension as I remember it.

With dynamic suspension (not sports suspension, it's a S$5K option) wow it really is very very nice to drive to the extent it corners way flatter than a stock 335.
