E90 engine stalled

hi all

I have encountered this 2 time already

After I reversed into my parking lot, and engage gear from R to P - the engine will stall ... even before I depress the engine off button

When I try to re-start my engine, then high rev to 4k, release accelerator, and the RPM will drop to about 500+ with a weak growl, but do not stall

Could this be due to low RPM? or just a coincidence?

any bro/sis experience this before?

Let me ask you a few questions.

1) When you are idling at say traffic light or waiting for people, does your RPM needle fluctuate down and up, like almost stalling?
2) Does it happen most often when you push the gear shift to "P"?
3) Does it feel like stalling when you do slow turn?

1) rpm does fluctuate a bit, maybe hovering between 50-100rpm.. but no sign of stalling
2) both times is when shift to P
3) no signs of stalling when slow down

bro.. you encounter this before?

btw.. my ride is 4 yrs 85k mileage 320i

Re: E90 engine stalled

could it be fuel pump issue?

Re: E90 engine stalled

Ok. Ignition coil problem. Same thing happened to me around 80,000 km. Had it replaced at BVO and problem solved. Each coil costs around $50 so 4x50 but you have to add other labor costs too.

Hope this helps.

no sure.. what are the signs of fuel pump issue?

sometimes the engine jerked, especially when reversing, or jerk heavily during car start up.

one day mine was jerking heavily during startup and then stablized, drove out when almost to main road, engine jerk heavily and after a while, stalled..

called R2D, he said maybe ignition coil kaput (quite a common problem), then tow to his workshop and checked, it is the fuel pump.

i think you better get yours checked

Re: E90 engine stalled

Must be a big damage to replace fuel pump...

Before replacing the coils, no. Up and down, up and down.

what happen after your engine stalled? have to be towed to workshop? can you not re-start the engine?

I also encounter fuel pump up lorry. In fact, i already guess that it is due to fuel pump with the jerk. Once jerk start to be more frequent & violent, better call tow trunk. No fuel to engine le.

cannot start at all, towed to R2D workshop..

my car got body kit, so pay extra 85 bucks to lift the car higher with additional wheels on the front.

you better get yours checked, if it is not the fuel pump, it could be other issues.

Re: E90 engine stalled

hi there, i have encountered stalled engine on my RAV4 before. After examination, it is due to damaged spark plugs... Maybe you can check on your spark plugs too... after 85,000km, most likely there is a need for a new set of spark plugs

hope that helps.

Spark plugs are not that expensive. Should be change every 20k.
