E90 engine oil leak experience

Noticed dripps of oil on the floor directly under the engine bay.
Milegae at 118k did replcement of gasket seals, oil sump, hose, coolant box.
After parts replacements the flywheel oil seal starts to leak. Thus push in the workshop once again.
Replace all of the above seals at $1,100 with orginial wiper blades.
The parts are cheap the labour is the killer.

I had a similar problem on my 2006 e90 - oil leak in engine bay. Mileage approx 100k. Sent to PML, and they quoted about $2k. Got a quote from one of the sponsor workshop here and was quoted $1k+ to replace "all related seals" to stop leak problem.

Not convinced, I brought car to my regular workshop in JB who specialises in BMW's. After diagnosis, mech replaced 2 o-rings at oil filter housing, and 4 more o-rings on the 2 VANOS solenoids. Viola! Oil leak no more and I'm poorer by less than RM270 - which includes my regular servicing. I brought my own oil, oil filter and air filter though....

And I must say that these guys are super pro! They even did a complete engine wash for me - meticulously cleaning EVERY item that has oil stain. Now my engine bay looks almost like new again! Hahaha!

If anyone here are feeling adventurous enough to head north to service your car, PM me for contact. Just to clarify, I'm NOT related to workshop in anyway. Just a happy customer after saving 90% of what the workshops here tried to charge me...

Had my gasket replaced 2 times already by reputable workshops. May seek out 3rd opinion if i am still told it is stil leaking.

I replaced the following oil seals in my E90 320i recently,

1) Engine Oil Filter Housing
2) The 2 vanos sensor oil seals
3) Engine Oil Sump Gasket
4) Engine Oil Pump Oil seal (I was told normally the whole pump is replaced but my workshop customised an oil seal for my oil pump, save alot of money)
5) Rocker Cover Oil Seal
6) Vanos Motor Oil Seal

You guys might wanna check out the engine oil pump whether its leaking, cos mine was leaking really badly. Need to hoist up the car, remove the bottom undertray, from the oil sump area, shine up towards the firewall where there is a silver heat shield, from there if the engine oil pump is leaking, you can see splashes of oil on the silver heat shield and leaking all the way down to the gearbox housing.

Hi All,

I've come over from Japanese car ownership and I was wondering if there are lower temperature thermostats available for BMW cars to allow them to run at lower temperatures? Many Japanese after market brands offer such lower temperature thermostats for Japanese cars. I figure that these failing gaskets could be due to high running temperatures of the continental engines in our hot climate and urban driving conditions.

Just my thoughts. Cheers.

Just fixed my oil problem and I have a feeling that I'm been ripped. initially the guy quoted me $700-800 and final turns out to be $1027.
Here are what he changed.
VAlve Solenoid o-Ring Seal
O-ring Seal 1
Seal Flange
Racker Cover Gasket
O-ring seal 2
Gasket
VEntillation Hose
Oil separartor
Return Pipe
Connecting Line
Oil Filter Housing Gasket
Oil Cooler Gasket
And Close to $500 for labour.

Now he claims that my Brake pads and sensor switch are wearing out. and he's charging me more than 1K to get all brake stuffs replaced.
Any bro to recommend me a more reliable workshop?

Seem all Beamers have leaking problems and high rate for wear and tear. I sort of begin to dislike having to keep up with all these hassle and most likely will revert to Jap model for the next change. Perhap the IS 250 will fair better.

So far I did mine at Boss Motorsport and seems okie but I notice that most of us only focus on the top and forgotten about the bottom. Thus please remember to ask the workshop if they will be doing just the top or both top & bottom? I did mine top & bottom for $600 plus oil change everything.. But just few days back I noticed that there is a slight leakage from mythopoetic called nick uplands told me to drive down to his workshop andhe get his workshop manager to check it out and did tell me thatrightfullyafter suchchangeshould last anew year. So I guess they probably did not place it properly. This could just be a one off. But shofar still pretty happy with their service though. At least I dun have to pay 600 for nothing since he promised to get it rectified for me.

Hi,

I am also starting to experience quite a number of leaky issues with my E90. Mileage is 60K+ and out of warranty, and more things are starting to leak.

When I send in my car for oil change at PML 3 weeks ago, I requested them to help identify the leaks. Was charged $50 for checking . They managed to identify a number of places, brake vacuum pump being one of them. I had that item replaced about a year ago and now it is leaking again! the estimate cost quote is huge. So I am thinking that I will go to one of the workshops outside.

I have a question regarding how to go about getting quotes from a couple of workshop before I decide.

1) Do I need to make appointment before sending in?
2) Do they charge if I want them to give me an estimate of the repair cost?

Please advise. Help appreciated. Thank you.

today I chg front brake pad (390)+sensor(45) & rear brake (350)+sensor (45), workmanship is front (30) & rear (30). Did in KL for RM890. Hope is helpful for benchmark.

Go to malaysia BMW club search for workshop in JB tell you lists of workshop for repairing and service BMW car. I personally prefer B2 trading. This workshop is the cheapest in term of labour of all the workshop I had tried. This workshop is operated by father and son. I always brought my own spare parts brought from golden link and they provide labour to replace it. Remember got my E46 oil sump, all engine gasket, replace engine oil and all hoses replaced under RM$900 for labour last year. So far so good no leakage.

Above repair is all done in one day with 3 mechanic working on my car. Reach the workshop at 9 am in the weekday and collect my car in the evening. If want to replace above parts in here at least need to leave the car in the workshop for few days and cost 3 times the labour charge.
