E82 135i DCT problems?

Am considering getting a used E82 135i.

There is 1 white unit in sgcarmart with DCT and the rest are steptronic.

Want to get some feedbacks from the forumers if there are any problems with the DCT so far? Is Steptronic a "safer" option? Anyone have any feedback on the white DCT unit in sgcarmart?

PM me if it is sensitive. Tks.

Hi unclecomfort,

I guess the E82 135i with DCT is a 2011 or newer right? Anyway back in late 2011 or early 2012 (forgot when), I read from an overseas forums (somewhere in BIMMERPOST | BMW Forum, BMW News and BMW Blog) that this DCT has some issues if you intend to 'power' up the OEM Power/Torque, however if you do not intend to touch it's OEM output, there's no issues.

Also specific to the white unit with DCT in sgcarmart... unable to provide any info.

The aboe is what I can input. Cheers.

Hi Baby,

yes. It's the newer 2011 model with N55 engine.

As with most Dual Clutch,"power up" option are always limited without any internal coponents stregthening.

I also read from various forums on issues not related to "power up" though. Lag in response, reverse gear not working, overheating in normal driving condition etc.

Just trying to find out from any owner here who have experienced or heard any of this or are those just isolated issues.

Re: E82 135i DCT problems?

IMHO, I do not think it is an isolated issue. Having said that, I am no expert so I can be very wrong.

What I read with regard to the N55 with DCT is an issue of "maturity", just like the 7-speed steptronic/auto when it came out to replace the 6-speed steptronic/auto, whereas now there's no issues with 7-speed.

probably...that is why I am trying to solicit more feedbacks from owners hopefully before making a commit

Re: E82 135i DCT problems?

I believe the white unit in SGcarmart used to be sedonna red but was resprayed white.. and its up for sale for god knows how long liao...

Re: E82 135i DCT problems?

hmm...I saw the actual unit. Engine bay is white and seems aged enough so should be authentic. I could be wrong. It was there for half a year already as mentioned by the dealer. Anyone aware of the history? It's an unit from PMSL.

Yes, I have heard of that too, from a very reputable mechanic.

Re: E82 135i DCT problems?

technically the dct is a more superior gb than steptronic. faster shifts n rev match. sportier feel. go with Dct.

Re: E82 135i DCT problems?

yea i know... but reliability wise, those feedbacks I saw from the forums seems to suggest that the dct unit on the E82 135i has more issues than say the VW DSG unit. Which is scary...probably its like what Baby mentioned, early adopter...

I'm not sure about E82 135i but the VW DSG unit on my friend's Scirocco was replaced twice under warranty at 7 months and 2 years old. Jerky gear changes and loud metallic cranking sound when shifting down gears. VW extended the gearbox warranty to 5 years. Now at almost 3 years old and mileage of almost 20,000km, it's still ok (fingers crossed).

Re: E82 135i DCT problems?

there are some comments about sluggishness of the DCT in 1addicts.com
not sure if owners here experience the same thing.
