I have a May/2004 E46 320i with COE expiring in less than 2 months time & wondering if I should scrap or extend COE? The car is still a very nice drive. Just wondering if there are any other Owners out there with same dilemma?

last month PQP was $79k

S$79k cash i supposed........means can used for 50% down payment for a pretty new E90 320i but of course with monthly instalment ahead as well? or pay S$79k COE so car fully paid also good......since your E46 running solid..

Re: E46 320i

On the monetary side, guess need to also factor in loss of PARF of $25k!

My 100pct stock car is running silky smooth now but I just wonder what kind of problems a car more than 10 years old will give?

If I scrap, I kindda like the X1 sDrive20i :)

is true 10 years old car down the road might have issue ( we never know )..
maybe is time to move on.....get the X1..

PARF + renew COE= $104k. Doesn't make sense to renew COE.

My father kept 2 cars beyond 10 years. 1st was a Toyota corolla. Gave no problems until 17 years old, then suddenly everything started breaking down one after another. The second was a Merc E class. No issues until 13 years old, then similarly everything started to haywire and went in to garage every single month for repairs and being German car meant big bills. Kept the car another 2 years more than 20 workshop visits later, finally sold it. Luckily, being a Merc, resale value was excellent.

My advice, keep your $25k parf and add $79k to go shopping for new/newer motor.....looks like there is an X1 in your near future...;)

Sad but somewhat true...

Re: E46 320i

Rodney of R2D has a smooth running E46 as well and has never broken down (much). Best u go ask him whether its advisable to keep it or not after he inspects it. I have heard smooth engines break down one day after warranty ends...so yours may be alittle riskier if you never really maintain it like Rodney.

Its a waste actually as the E46 is a nice car

Re: E46 320i

Thanks, MW! My car has been exclusively serviced by R2D for past 6 years or so ie since the day I met Rodney. I remember clearly the day I met Rodney - when he went on his knees & proposed to his girlfriend right in front of me at BMW-SG drive cum photo event at Changi Airport :)

I m asking u to ask Rod whether to extend COE, not about kneeling down in front of u. I think u r a pervert

Re: E46 320i

I already asked Rodney & he told me my car is good to keep, if I have the funds to extend COE. I like to keep my E46 too but I just hate to 'part' with $79k + $25k for a 10 year old car. So just like to hear others opinions!

Meanwhile, the X1 sDrive20i caught my eye :)

Re: E46 320i

if good to keep, tat means u are paying 100k for a "new" car which can last u long time (zero loan)

U get a new car like X1...ur 100k pays only part of the car price and then maybe u will come in say ur muffler area rust or u hear wong wong wong sound

But I do realise getting a new car is damn exciting and everyone will find all sorts of reasons to justify buying new things, me included.

Another option is to consider renewing COE for 5 years instead of 10. Pay 50% of PQP.

thats the worst option. Lose your PARF and after 5 yrs lose your car. And if u ever try to sell before your car expires, no one will buy from you unless u lelong lelong.

Another option: migrate. All other countries sell cars "freehold", only ours on "leasehold". Just joking lah. Singapore is the best!

Re: E46 320i

The deadline to extend my COE is 8 days away. So I was just wondering how many E46 320s are still on the road ie Owners have extended COE?
