Driving to KL

Re: Driving to KL

Recently there have been many cases of arsony targeting luxurious makes in some parts of Malaysia....I think Petaling Jaya was one of them
burn and run .....happened in many public car parks and even some residential areas.

Hi,

I might drive to KL next week but being a novice to driving in KL, may i know what precaution you guys take when your tyre hit a nail and "lao hong" halfway there?
My car dun have any spare tyre but as i am on 19 rim, i guess even for spare tyre, what is the minimum size to have?

Any emergency number for towing if the car break down----this is just in case.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Terras, driving up NSHW shd be a breeze... when in KL u can valet@hotel (but u keep the keys)... when in KL, call ur KL friends to drive you ard... many M'sians drive n better coz they know the road condition there better.

Thousands of Singaporeans will drive up KL during next wkend... so really unlucky if kenna unhappy things.... hahaha

Dun wonder too much... juz go enjoy ur holiday! :)

Re: Driving to KL

dun worry bro, have a great holiday, it's much safer in kl than just across the causeway. drive safe n do not road hog, even if u r travelling at 200km/h, LOL..... take the neccessary precautions like going around in numbers, yes, even to the toilets at rest points n avoid the deserted ones. i used to go genting every other month until they opened up a "branch" here.... n i still go jb once a week to lim kopi with friends there. keep a low profile n i always have a spare tyre ready, coz i wun know when i'll need it. of all the trips there for the past 20 plus years, my car's window has been broken n things stolen only once, well, that happens here also, n that was becoz i parked along some deserted lane (kay kiang) as there was no parking space around. but i've been into many near fights there though.....

Re: Driving to KL

Hi bro, it's not as scary as what some bro says just use some common sense.

Get your mechanic to check for normal thing like your oil level, brakes, radiator hoses, tire pressure / tire leaks before long drives.

I would bring:
- tire repair kit thing
- steering wheel lock (most KL cars have one)
- a bottle of water ( for car in case overheat / wash hands)

Drive safe and enjoy trip up. Drove up to Cameron highlands last oct it was quite a nice long drive, but stopped in malacca, KL them CH.

Thanks bro for all your advice....think I will get the repair kit, prepare water, buy steering lock kit and last adjust my coil over a bit higher....lol

Re: Driving to KL

Guys, anyone have strong recommendations for the tire repair kit? Heard good things about airman. Any other locally avail kits? Guess will need a separate compressor to pump up the tire after repair.

Thanks!

Bro Terras, I will also be driving up to KL/Genting sometime next month and as such would like to "borrow" your thread to ask any of the forum brudders here whether you guys have had experience parking your cars in the Genting carpark? Safe? Any better place to park in Genting?

I know there are many BMWs in Malaysia and no ill intent meant here but I'm kinda paranoid when it comes to the security of my car in Malaysia. I know the alternative is not to drive but its a multi family holiday so not cool to say F off to the rest haha!

Any advise is appreciated.

Sorry to OT on your thread Terras.

Just park at open car park in front Genting and Highlands Hotel or give it to valet at First World.

Bro, good to take precaution but I drive up twice a month for months now and hasn't got major problems so far so relax. Get a repair kit and you should be fine.

Is truth man ! Driving NSHW indeed vy fun but only provided u drive more than 160km/h ha !

Go nuts and standby RM$50 for fines. I do 200-310kmh. The way to do it is by staying in the car when blocked or stopped, then wind down 1/4 and listen to what they have to say. In half smiling manner, say, "officer, I am sorry, please give me a chance". Then he will say what chance you want and you wind your window lower and leave the Rm$50 on your inner dash (not the top, too obvious) or at the door side pocket and let him take it himself. Reason is, they have anti-corruption forces posing as police now who will give you more hell if you bribe the officers so let him take the money.

Another important question to ask is, any more cameras in front and where is it? Do note that do not work together from state to state so they can provide limited distance onlybutitsusually reliable. Note that Johore highway stretch and second kink are 2 separate operations so you can kena one in Johore and still get another in second link.

They'll plant something in your tires that'll generate lots of smoke when you drive and when you stop toget out of the car, that's when you get it. So drive on!

If lots of Singapore cars going up, be sure there will be road blocks and speed cameras. Yes, my rule is, I negotiate when booming hotel rooms to let me park in front of the lobby, just pay for peace of mind, and I made friend with the GM oaf the hotels. But that's also cos I give them lots of business. If going Boulevard hotel in mid valley, let me know.

I keep an extendable walking stick in my car and when custom checks, its for hiking or when my knee gives me trouble,

Get car serviced before that, tell mechanic you are going KL

Re: Driving to KL

Have driven up many times and only encountered one damaged tyre in Penang during chinese new year. Whether the tyre was cut is a different issue altogether.

Re: Driving to KL

do get a spare tyre, for peace of mind.

kena pot holes, tyres cut, that's it. urs 19" and not easy to find one in smaller town.

KL/genting is safe. take the necessary precautions listed earlier and dont let it dampen your mood there.

Re: Driving to KL

Rent a proton wira and drive to malaysia is safest!
