does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

hey bros, my last car i changed the muffler and the sound was louder..but fuel consumption shot up to very high! was thinking if the sound actually affects the fuel consumption?

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

No, sound decibel levels do not have anything to do with your fuel comsumption.

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

how can i have high sound decibel and not increasing the fuel consumption? is it possible to give me an explaination of my last car?

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

did you enjoy the sound of the loud exhaust too much and rev or chiong more? because i know i definitely would!

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

nah for my previous car, just normal cruising will increase the fuel consumption already..because the muffler i changed is actually hollow..

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

no diff for mine.
may be u wanna check ur fuel tank is it leaking.

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

my car has sports headers, no cats...n after mkt exhaust. its very loud..but consumption has dropped from average of 15l/100 (stock) to 13l/100....less back pressure..less heat...engine works lesser....this is what shud happen...

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

most likely you have loss some low end torque. to compensate for your normal driving you step more. when i installed aftermarket exos same situation happened to me about 1km/L loss

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

any advice from bros..if i want high sound decibel on my ride and not increasing in the fuel consumption (or save more fuel instead like bro totoseow), what is the most recommanded route i should take? change the whole exhaust system? or just operating on the muffler? or removing cats, central resonator? man said that removing the central resonator increases fuel consumption by alot, is it true? sorry to ask so much, just dont want the same thing to happen like my previous ride so have to confirm first before doing..bros, your advise would be greatly appreciated..

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

bro, you can't have one thing without sacrificing some of the other...

Can leh, u can have Martel and Chivas at the same time...champion!

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

i admit that I can lah... but next day a bit jia lat leh... wahahaha! wallet more empty only....

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

but bro totoseow said that his fuel consumption actually reduced after the increase level of sound decibel. i wont expect so much on that since i agree with bro mracer, i gotta sacrifice something for another, but what is the most recommanded way i should do so to increase sound decibel(maybe abit of low torque, doesnt matter if don't) with the minimum increase of fuel consumption? change the whole exhaust system(approved/unapproved?)? remove cat? remove central resonator? change a hollow muffler(like my previous ride which did huge difference on fuel consumption after that)? i really need some good advise from experienced bros around so i can carry on with it, hands getting itchy lol.

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

bump! can some experienced bros advise please?

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

your best bet would be to change the muffler and leave the rest of your exhaust system alone if you don't want the fuel consumption to change too much.

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

that's exactly what i did on my previous ride that increases fuel consumption and sound decibel but decreases my low torque..what i intend is to increase alittle or remain the same amount of low torque(instead of decreasing) and at the same time increase the sound decibel with not needing to sacrifice too much or remain the same amount of fuel consumption as before..from what i heard from man's, the muffler change actually increases the sound decibel only but loses low torque because changing plainly on the air output without adjusting the air input to match up with is actually having no change in the low torque or infact reducing it..what did he meant by changing the air input to match the air output(muffler)? sorry bros, newbie here really got much to catch up with..hope i can get some guidance and enlightment from experienced bros around..

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

bump hee..any bros nothing to do care to read up alittle and impart some knowledge?

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

haha i dont know about how the sounds can screw up ur fc but if thats the case my fc will go down damn low man.. my newly installed sebrings no sound one haha teach me how to make loud loud leh

Re: does the loudness of exhaust sound determins the fuel consumption?

then will my car lose torque if i decide to remove the central resonator or change muffler? does removing also increases fc? heard from man's that it does..

why don't you read up instead and tell us what you've found out since you don't seem to believe the advice that's already been given?
