DMS for 523i

Jus corresponded with Mike Cooper of DMS Automotive. He had advised that Rob had almost finished developing an upgrade for the E60 523i valvetronic. Rob is currently in Prague working on 2 new F430 and will be back in UK to finish up his stuff and head to Singapore/ KL area during the late first week or early 2nd week of Dec.

basically, they would like to know roughly how many of us would be keen on doing this upgrade so that they can plan Rob's schedule here accordingly. So those we are keen can either post here or PM me so that we can help these guys out in consolidating some numbers.

I am also checking with them tat since they can make it work for the 523i, am sure they can do the 2.5 and 3.0 litre valvetronic engines as well right? Anyway, they are trying to get back to me with more details. So for those who have thought of doing an upgrade to free up some horses and torque, and if all goes well for DMS to come up with something, now is the time....

Re: DMS for 523i

I would be interested. Any idea how much($ and bhp)? Hiop still cannot give me a definite answer so I probably won't bother to wait. I would still like some sort of local support though!

Bro, the DMS tuner is not based locally as we all know. The only "local" support u are going to get is whenever he comes to town. So if u can live with dat, go for it man.

I realise that which is why I was hoping to use Hiop. But Hiop Germany have not replied to any of my emails recently after they realised that the info they had been giving me was wrong! If they don't even have the courtesy to reply then I won't bother with them anymore.

I am also waiting for more details about it. Will let u know once i hear something.

And T6 is right, those keen gotta remember they are not "locally available" tuner.
Maybe those guys who has their car tuned by DMS can give us their comments, i.e. any problems faced etc...?

Re: DMS for 523i

Yeah..
would lv to hear the reviews after several months of running....anyone?

Re: DMS for 523i

So far running very smoothly, no problems whatsoever. Fuel consumption has been constant.

The car still pulls like it was when the programme was uploaded. If for any reason that the car feels slower its most likely because my butt is getting used to the characteristics of the motor. Either that or I'm putting on weight kekekeke

Rob has been very helpful and explained in detail what exactly he did to my car. During the period he was in town, he gave me the option of running it for a couple of days without paying a single cent and if I still did not feel good about it he would upload my original programme at NO COST.

Barry, is there any risk of the DMS tuning screwing up such that the car has to be garaged until Rob returns to Singapore to troubleshoot the problem? I guess that wld be the biggest concern of potential owners when there is zero permanent local support.

Re: DMS for 523i

for this kind of remap - you will know straightaway if there is any problem or incompatibility. if the car runs fine after the tune, its quite unlikely the ECU itself will cause problems later on.

the worst that can happen to remapped car is PML mechanic gets itchy and uploads some new software - in that case you will lose the programming and revert back to stock.

So does that mean that if I install the Aux-in after I install the DMS upgrade, my ECU will revert to the standard program? I understand the iDrive software has to be upgraded to allow selection of Aux.

Re: DMS for 523i

not necessarily the case. the ECU software is only for engine management. im not that familiar with BMW electronics, but there may be other control modules for ICE and maybe for the IDRIVE. so it depends.

btw, anyone know DMS pricing and their gains for E46 320i?

Re: DMS for 523i

For me it's been OK, after DMS remap, I've sent in my E60 to PML for two CIP updates and it's still the same, torque comes in at ~2.5Krpm instead of 3K, still get that surge when dropping from 6th to 5th for overtaking on the highway...

In fact with the recent CIP 19.1 update, throttle response and kickdown is better than before and they've also fixed the active steering to be better weighted and have more feel, steering ratios also got adjusted a little faster, in fact CIP 19.x is very nice. Oh and you'll also get day time running lights thrown in as a bonus.

Re: DMS for 523i

That's good to know. It would be a pain in the butt if the DMS changes were reverted to normal everytime PML upgraded the software.

I thought I saw a daytime running lights option on one of my iDrive menus? No idea what version mine is but was told it was built in June 2005 (4 months before it was delivered!)

Hey eggz,

Just curious: Has PML said anything about your remap? Can they tell? Have you made any claims under warranty after the remap?

Re: DMS for 523i

I think our ECU has limited number of times allowed for flashing. If so, and if you need repeated retuning, or if go PML they overwrite then have to restore back, etc etc, how ah? Or does DMS have a way around that?

Just like mistraele said.
There has been a case whereby PML did upload a new software for the car. Somehow it was incompatible with the DMS. What happened was that the entire vehicle went into safe mode or limp home mode.

In this scenario, there is no need to have your vehicle immobilised until the tuner returns. PML is able to reflash the entire ECU system restoring the original programme. Yet again it would be inappropriate to elaborate further in an open discussion thread.

Re: DMS for 523i

my two cents... the current CIP for e60s is quite matured now, bugs has been ironed out related to blue tooth; NAV system; AFS and so on. Version 19.x is what it is currently running on most e60s. I got my ride two years ago when it was a far cry of version 10.x and i have gone thru 4 flashes to get to 19.x..hehehe!
Having said that, without complicated electronic gadgetries options, nothing much can screw up the ECU etc. in other words first generation e60 is pretty stable. now if you have those N52 valvetronics engine.. i suspect BMW still collecting field data and on going process of fixing software bugs related to ECU in the e60 stable.

Those N52 driven e60s are still pretty much less than three month old story eventhough the 630i has longer field life.. so some precaution and due deligence prior to jumping the bandwagon is suggested.

now where is rob?

Re: DMS for 523i

hi
how to tell wat version of cip is installed for the car?

no leh, I think they don't know, the first time I went in for CIP update, was a bit scared, but the CSA didn't say anything...anyway I did ask Rob and he says they shouldn't know unless they really go and poke around.

I've gone in for stuff like fixing squeaks and rattles and, windscreen replacement, all OK, nothing serious I guess....
