Dirty Oil....change again?

Hi Experts,

I did an oil change 4 months back at PML. I opened up the cap recently to take a look and noticed that the oil still looks dirty, very dark color almost black wih bits of residual. I thought its suppose to be dark translucent brown color looking like new ones? Or there are just too much carbon inside the engine?

Would you know if those popular Bimmer workshops (like Boss, BVO, etc) does thorough cleaning for the engine? I was thinking if they can flush or pump out the dirty ones and do some sort of cleaning before refilling it with fresh oil.

Was hoping that performance and petrol consumption will imprive after that.

Advice?

Regards,

Hi Pandora21,

Re: Dirty Oil....change again?

erm..... i think it wun stay translucent brown for long.... i wouldn't worry

Re: Dirty Oil....change again?

Oil is supposed to be dirty. Like what Mock said, i will be worried.

Re: Dirty Oil....change again?

I thought engine oil will always turn black after a few day drives, doesn't it ?
But having residuals is a bit worrying.

Re: Dirty Oil....change again?

Sorry guys, was down with flu for past two days.

Yes, I'd better send it in for a check.

Re: Dirty Oil....change again?

dude.. it's fine, don't have to worry.

Re: Dirty Oil....change again?

maybe pandora21 have not been with bmw long enough,
our oil get black very soon, especially serviced by PML cos they use castrol 0W30 oil which i heard will deteriote fast in our climate

my previous lexus v6 engine oil is still transulcent brown after 10k km
but my 523 oil gets brown within 2k km

Re: Dirty Oil....change again?

I asked a local dealer about this last year and they said that its normal for the oil to turn brown/black after a couple of months. This just means that the oil is doing its job of suspending the contaminants in the engine.

Having residuals/solid particles sounds bad though. Best to bring it to your local dealer for inspection.

Re: Dirty Oil....change again?

Thanks guys for all your advice and comments.
I am not good at such things just know how to drive.....haha.

Re: Dirty Oil....change again?

HI Guys, another question please.

My ride's E90 323i. its about 4 years this month. It's fav drink is Shell 98.

Normally full tank about 47 litres and cost about $105+/-, it can fetch me about 380km until orange light comes on again.

FC indicator commonly shows 6.6 to 6.8 km/L. I am "light-footed" and most of the time I do city driving only, not very frequent on highways.

Does this look normal to you on the FC?

Thanks for your advice.

I have almost same driving pattern and style as u. FC also about same as u. Distance travelled also. You must be my long lost brother R2D2.

Only thing I don't understand is why u said ur full tank is 47L. I presume u meant when orange light came on and u pump, it takes 47L to reach full tank....?

Hi C3PO, I think my full tank is about 47 litres. So am assuming 47 litres can fetch me about 370km of driving only.
