Differences in Engine in a left hand driven to a right hand driven 318i

Hi,

I was wondering if there is any difference in the engine layout, external components (alternator, AC compressor etc) for a right hand drive vehicle to a left hand drive vehicle ?

Basically I want to get an engine (maybe from a left hand driven BMW) so will there be any problem mounting it to a right hand driven vehicle ? engine mounts, engine balance, various sensor connections to the engine etc ?

Engine is a N42B20 for 318i (2003 Model).

Thanks
Vam

There should be no difference to the engine block for LHD and RHD except for the steering column.

The accessories like air con, power steering is the same.

extractor is of a different design to accomodate the RHD steering column.

Hi,

Thanks for you reply, does this mean that the steering column may interfere with the engine if I put a LH engine to a RH car ? (ie will it touch any other component).

thx

you will need to just change to RHD extractors.

I know u r going to say it's the extractor cos i tot of that as well but then when i re-read again, he was specifically asking for a 318 N42 and that means there is no difference leh....
