delete resonators?

thinking of removing resonators for sound + performance. wondering if any bros out there (especially fellow e90 320i drivers) care to share the benefits/downsides of this mod? would it simply amplify exhaust noise or create a bassier drone/tone?

also considering operating on my exhaust... any impact on engine performance or does it just make my exhaust louder?

lastly, can anyone confirm whether i can decat my 320i without causing the annoying error message to pop up?

thanks for any assistance rendered!

Re: delete resonators?

Removing resonators will cause droning in the cabin.

Delete cat will cause the CEL checklight.

Re: delete resonators?

Resonators will definately make your car louder.. but performance wise, not much difference.
If you want both sound and performance, delete CATS and Resonators.
If you're just going for sound, resonators would be sufficient.
For performance only, den CATS would be desirable.

Just my 2cents :)

Re: delete resonators?

you have replaced the stock exhaust with Sebring right
the sound level is not up to mark ar ? kekeke

Re: delete resonators?

 Simi stop modding liao?? Now asking about resonator delete, hahaha.... There is no turning back point bro. And after this, you'll decat all the way and replace header too...

Ok, back to the topic, you should listen to Steven32 sebring quad exhaust with resonator deleted. The sound is so much sweeter, louder and bassier. When idling, the drone is bassy and low, just nice and not too much. AI DELETE MAI ?

Paging Steven32.... Where are you? Show bro Kaiser your loud loud sebring leh..:D

Re: delete resonators?

Ya delete resonators and headers for NA will make the car damn slow , but louder.

Re: delete resonators?

i took out my secondary cats, and i didn't lose any power. i gained more torque.

ai race mai?

Re: delete resonators?

soooo... can i confirm that i cant take out secondary cats on my e90 without triggering check light? hmm... guess decat for me is out of the question then.

also, i am yet to be convinced on the issue of backpressure loss resulting in torque loss for NA engines. i did feel some torque loss when i switched out to an aftermarket muffler, but from what i gather that is attributed to other factors that has got nothing to do with a more free-flowing system... hmm...

bro, i'm starting to believe that this whole 'stop modding after this' statement is simply to deceive myself into feeling better after spending time and money on a certain mod. it cures the backside itch for maybe about a couple of days, and then u ask urself 'what's next'...

i think the only true antidote is 1 x massive bank robbery... anyone up for it?

looks like i have to check out bro steven's ride!! btw can anyone confirm if there is any difference in the exhaust sound produced by a twin pipe and quad pipe system? would a twin pipe produce a punchier sound especially for us 4 potters? cos i'm contemplating between an extension and fake tips...

Re: delete resonators?

just out of curiosity, why do you feel that decatting will result in the loss of torque?

self fulfilling. stop modding means will definitely continue modding. don't deceive yourself anymore. :p

anyways, why don't you go step by step, and if you're already happy at step 1, can save some money, and look ahead to doing something else with the car.

not sure if u r referring to me, but to clarify, i don't believe that decatting will result in loss of torque. many have claimed that is so (back pressure loss etc), but i am yet to be convinced. but im not all that technically adept sooo... trust me at your own risk =P

Re: delete resonators?

relax, this is not directed at you :)

i have heard about the back-pressure thingy from even the people at the exhaust workshops themselves.

on reading up more, found out otherwise...

and the O2 sensor issue at the cats can be resolved quite easily.

my personal advice to you. remove resonator at your own risk. you might be craving for a louder exhaust sound now. but i guarantee you that it's not fun when a white bike with ROV plates pulls up at a traffic light next to your car. i know - cos it happened to me before...

So what happenend in the end? Did he ask you to get down of your ride for him to inspect - I mean your ride of course ?

Re: delete resonators?

as i was waiting for the lights to turn green, a myriad of thoughts were running through my mind...

should i drive off as per normal? cannot leh. sure kena... and this was even before i had my not-legal window tints...

should i wait awhile and let him go off first? looked in the rear mirror and saw taxi... the guy will most likely be horn-happy and honk me, thereby attracting even more attention...

my car was already droning a little... and just at that moment, the SOB cast his evil eye in my direction. i couldn't actually see his eyes, but i knew they were evil, kekeke...

contemplated switching off engine...

then lights turned green... and he sped off...

i almost peed in my pants...

hmm... just how bad is the drone actually? comparable to a boxer engine? i kinda like the low bassy drone but that might just be the ahbeng in me talking... when i get slapped with the $750 fine i might think differently. but for now, all these options r pretty interesting...

btw resonators delete = confirm illegal? cos rod just told me it isnt...
