Ever wonder how the online VIN decoders can tell you so much about your BMW and what is the magic behind that 17-character identifier?
Here's some information that hopefully is able to help you understand and appreciate your BMW better!
VIN Schema
GLOSSARY
1. WMI (or World Manufacturer Identifier)
This records everything about your BMW; i.e. body style, engine type, model, series, etc.
3. Check Digit
This is a VIN accuracy check digit, verifying the previous numbers within the VIN. This check digit is a single number or letter "X" used to verify the accuracy of the transcription of the vehicle identification number. Kind of similar to the final alphabet on our Singapore NRIC and car license plate numbers.
4. Plant Code (where your BMW was built)
This is the sequential production number of your BMW.
Hope this helps, and enjoy your Bimmers!
