A cyclist was hit by a taxi and flung off his bike when he apparently tried to zip past a traffic junction as the green pedestrian sign was flashing.

The accident took place at the junction of Upper Changi Road and Somapah Road on Tuesday night.

Police received a call at about 10pm, alerting them to the accident. The 52-year-old cyclist was conveyed conscious to Changi General Hospital.

The accident was captured on a taxi driver's in-car video camera and his son, Steven, sent the video to Stomp. Steven who witnessed the accident inside his father's car, told Stomp that the lights were green for pedestrians to cross the traffic junction when the cyclist was hit by a taxi which was turning right. Police investigations are ongoing.

Re: Cyclist or Taxi is in the wrong ?

Here we go again, the cyclist and motorist thing. Without prejudice, cyclist is wrong... taxi also wrong.

Why cyclist wrong
- Cyclist should slow down and stop instead of trying to beat the amber light but more importantly... Cyclist suspose to push their bicycles across a pedestrian crossing.

Why Taxi wrong
- Based on the taxi's speed, it was certainly not "stationary and move", it was certainly travelling, slow down, see no pedestrian on the right side, red man on signal, continue to turn right... cyclist came fast, bang!!!! Taxi dented, cyclist lucky will live.

Conclusion - Unfortunate Taxi driver "more wrong" than the cyclist.... usually in such an accident.

The cyclist still has no brain. He should try his right-of-way argument with a truck driver next time.

His brain did suddenly came back when he saw the taxi.....

Re: Cyclist or Taxi is in the wrong ?

cyclist was not trying to cross on flashing green man, he was cheonging the amber light.
taxi will lose insurance claim, bicyclist will lose overall.

Here's what Amber means:

the illuminated amber arrow light shall be taken to denote an impending change from green arrow light to red arrow light and as prohibiting vehicles from proceeding beyond the stop line or broken lines on the road provided in conjunction with the signals except in the case of any vehicle which is so close to such line when the amber arrow light first appears that it cannot safely be stopped before the line, notwithstanding that they would otherwise be required by the illuminated green or amber light or lights to proceed on; and

Contrary to popular belief, Amber light does not mean CHEONG AH!!! I see at least a good 2 seconds from when the amber lights up to when he crosses the stop line. orbit quack to him.

He gained his brains and lost his balls at that moment...

Re: Cyclist or Taxi is in the wrong ?

Same arguments revisited.

Taxi driver might be wrong.

But cyclist is stupid to use his life to prove that he is right ?

Re: Cyclist or Taxi is in the wrong ?

I can see the cyclist beat the red turned traffic light for vehicle rather and not sure abput pedestrian crossing. The green right turning light was lited for taxi to turn. Taxi has the right of way but should have slowed down to avoid the accident. I won't put the blame blandly on taxi but partially, 25%, due to low light condition. Cyclist beat traffic light without slowing and was not well lited himself.

Push bicycles to cross only applicable during pedestrian crossing.

Re: Cyclist or Taxi is in the wrong ?

Let's just say we could all apportion 100% of the WRONGS to the taxi driver.

And what matters is - whether the cyclist is right? Whether he has the rights?

Or WHETHER HE IS ALIVE AND NOT INJURED?

I just don't understand.....

This same question should be in the mind of all other road users.

I am quite sure all other road users do not want these accidents to happen, but I seriously think given the state of traffic in Singapore, it makes more sense for the cyclists to adopt road prudence than to champion road usage rights.

Cause the cyclists could well be paying with their lives even if they are right.

Point is - be smart and alive is more important than be right but dead.

Re: Cyclist or Taxi is in the wrong ?

Nobody's fault.. All is the traffic light fault.....

Re: Cyclist or Taxi is in the wrong ?

This video helped the taxi driver (mitigating factors) .... Else he is toast.

I agree strongly with last point.

The green man is walking, so please walk across, don't run or cycle.

Re: Cyclist or Taxi is in the wrong ?

Right turning vechicle in the wrong for failing to keep proper look out.
Cyclist also wrong cause he too failed to keep proper look out. Furthermore, he is supposed to use the pedestrain crossing by dismounting and push the bike.
Both will kana summon by TP.
Both will need to pay WS and hospital respectively.
The winner is the govt. Both party also kana makan by govt. Ah Gong Huat ah!
