hihi..
am driving an old 1992 318is (m) coupe.. was told by my mechanic that my extractor gasket is cracked and thus i have a loss of HP and fuel efficiency is down.. :(

since i have to send my car in to fix the extractor gasket, i was wondering if it would help to change my exhuast system (to achieve more low-end toque) and if yes - what should i do?

would appreciate some advice from the "seniors" and experts at this forum..

thanks!

Don't think is the gasket. Could be the complete exhaust manifold as well. Nomally at cars your age is due for replacement. Complete manifold could set you back to about $2000 at PML.

After replacing, you will have notice an increase in response and better fuel efficiency as the exhaust gases can flow better, reducing back pressure in the engine. Good to change to a new one. No regrets guarenteed.

the 318iS is nototrious for having crack manifold due to the stainless steel mainfold. it's usually the joint where the header comes out..

Get ppl like Fong Kim or Man to get it welded and u should be fine after that....

As for the gasket, u cn get it change when u remove the manifold for welding...
