i heard changing your springs w/o changing your shocks can damage your car is it true?

i had changed my stock springs to breyton ones... just wondering if i need to change my shocks as well..

Re: changing stock springs...

supposedly yea, it'll reduce the lifespan of ur stock shocks.

Re: changing stock springs...

It's fine... for maybe the first year or so ... it's always better to change shock and springs together... the match is usually better... dosen't damge them... just shortens the lifespan of the shocks by alot.. cause the shocks are not meant to take that much of a harsher damp than thier usual.. dampners have to do more work.. and i think ur stocks are pretty soft... so after a while.. they wear out.

hm...how do u tell if the shocks is worn out?

Re: changing stock springs...

u'll feel the car bumpier & 'softer' feel. worst scenario, u can hear squeeking noise.

Re: changing stock springs...

worn out as in physical damage - oil leak, cracked or deformed spring, you'll notice the difference even if its gradual at first.

worn our after long use - its like what ACBoy described above - its a gradual process of wearing down. in this case it really depends on your personal preference and threshold - most enthusiasts say springs/shocks wear out in 2-3 years, but many others seem to be able to drive with the same stock set up for a long, long time.
