Change Brake Pads at PML or BVO

Went for the free PML check this morning.

My front brake pad is 4.5mm and rear at 6mm. They are now offering 20% discount. Is this 20% offer good, or a better deal at BVO?

The last time BVO quoted me about $1k for four rotors (zimmerman) and pads, including hose and brake fluid.

But I may not need to change rotor yet.

Hi...is the 1K by BVO all-inclusive of labour and fitting? thks.

Re: Change Brake Pads at PML or BVO

this is what i did... got pml to get me prices for rotors + pads... got quotes for brembos + pagids... total cost for brembos + pads + labour (Juzz) = rotors + pads only at pml... i still say seetoh was a great help to get these done for me early this year...

Ah Wee told me... including labour and GST, about $1100

Re: Change Brake Pads at PML or BVO

But in the first instance, 4.5mm still no need to change right?

My understanding is that only at 3mm, then would the ECU warning light come on.

Re: Change Brake Pads at PML or BVO

Change it before ur brake light indicator comes on, otherwise u have to spend a bit more to replace that indicator as well. :)

To replace the indicator, are you referring to the sensor?

Yup, the sensor!

Thanks. So I will target to change at 3.5mm thickness!

How thick is a new pad? At 4.5% now, how many usable percent is left. So that I can decide if I shd change now? Or is it a waste to change now.

Re: Change Brake Pads at PML or BVO

If you can't gauge the thickness of the pads, just wait for the warning light to turn on then go and change. Sensor not expensive, usually they will recommend you to change the sensors even before the indicator light on.

Re: Change Brake Pads at PML or BVO

why wait till the light comes on?

1100 gets you what rotors and what pads? New bearings?

Hi Phil,

1100 at BVO. Zimmermann rotor and dunno what pad (cannot remember the name Ah Wee told me).

Now you bring up a new itme. Bearings? What's that? Do I need to change? I am at 55,000Km. Close to 4th year. 2004 E46 318i Sports Edition.

Re: Change Brake Pads at PML or BVO

If you are changing rotors then yes, you have to change bearings. Some rotors come with a bearing shell already in them, but most dont.
