I think everyone is upgrading now, those tot of buying Jap car will consider buying european cars now. If not start renting cars....

there was an article about work permit holders riding whether singapore or Malaysian rregistered plates are somehow infringing the laws on both side ..

Not sure if getting a International Driving Permit issued by AAS solve it.
I had previously no problem in renting cars in Europe and Malaysia until recently
when I had to get a International Driving Permit due to stricter Korean car rental companies
demanding I must have it to rent me a car
Asked AAS at River valley, they told me car rental companies will rent me a car even though
I didn't have IDP but when in trouble such as accident, then it becomes my problem and not theirs.
Then there is another law that says we need IDP if we rent a left hand drive cars....

i have gotten a ticket some time back. i showed him my sg driving licence and my malaysian ic. my ticket says speeding... not driving illegally without a proper licence... (though my malaysian licence is still valid).

so, i am asking what is the basis of this

well, I am not referring to Malaysians going to AAS to get international driving permit.

Malaysians have to go to JPJ - road transport department malaysia - Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (Portal Rasmi Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia) to apply for an international driving permit, then only they can drive foreign plated cars in their own country.


For singaporeans, we have it easy... similar to our passports where there are very few visa restricted countries. we just need to go to AAS to apply for a 1 year international driving permit.
