Car Number Plate

So I am buying a car and the seller wants to keep the existing number plate.

I can now bid a number plate of choice from LTA to put on this used car i buying rite? Min bid is S$1000? or can choose from a listing of "normal" sequential numbers from LTA (if there is such a thing)?

Can I swap number plates between 2 used cars? heard its possible but damn expensive?

Anyone in the know can advise?

you can check out Land Transport Authority or onemotoring.
minimum bid is S$1000 but add $300+ to fix this number to existing car. for new cars, only add $100.

if seler wants to keep his plate..he has to get a new plate from LTA n stick it on ur car. u pay nothing.

no u cannot. once u transfer plate its 1.3 or 1.5k..cant remember.

Old plate (Assuming yr own plate) to New car --> $100 retention fee

Old Plate (U buying over) to New car -->
Cost of the plate PLUS
Insurance Cover Note PLUS
Transfer of the car (effectively the Plate) to yr Name PLUS
Retention Fee of $100
Transfer of the Car back to the seller

Old Plate (U buying over) to OLD car -->
Cost of the plate PLUS
Insurance Cover Note PLUS
Transfer of the car (effectively the Plate) to yr Name PLUS
Retention Fee of $1300
Transfer of the Car back to the seller

In short play old number plate not cheap. Work out the sum.. Seller may sell plate cheap but alot of overheard involve esp to LTA.

To save some cost we use some near to scrap non PARF vehicle as transfer fee n insurance is cheaper and the number of ownership doesn't matter much here.
