Buying M-Tech Kit from websites

Hi people,

Chanced upon this website and read that a full m-tech e90 bodykit only costs US$610 (w/o shipping). Based on today's rate, it will cost ($1.34 x $610) = S$817.40.

06-08 BMW 3-Series E90 4DR Duraflex M-Tech Complete Body Kit by:

If we factor shipping cost at US$500, which is ($500 x $1.34) = S$670, the total landed cost is S$1,487.40. Plus installation and paint at S$500, it will cost approximately S$2k, which is a good $1k difference from doing it locally.

Has anyone bought from this website before, or is it too big a risk to take? Any other considerations that I've missed out?

Please help.

Thank you, Sam

Samuel, this sounds like a fibreglass product. If so, then it is not cheap at all.

Re: Buying M-Tech Kit from websites

Haha, wt_know, it was only my estimation, as I was quoted S$450 for spray plus installation. Guess can get at this price if you purchase the kit from the shop.

Shifu, I'm not sure if this is fibreglass product. Was getting confused reading the website on which material is being used. I have sent an RFQ to them and will ask them on material. My bumper is badly scratched and was thinking topping up to the cost of respraying the whole bumper to give my car a fresh look with the new kit. Was reading up on previous threads and realised that there are other considerations like fitment, material, etc. Do you reckon that I should save the trouble and go to Mike directly?

Re: Buying M-Tech Kit from websites

From their description, it sounds like fibreglass........ With our local roads, you need PU/PP/FRP to withstand the road humps and what not. Besides material, any aftermarket parts (especially non-tuner brands), you will risk fitment issues. Even original Racing Dynamics parts, my colleague's E46 coupe had a fitment issue on the sideskirts that took him a while to fix.

You could check with Mike for new or used kits.

if you don't mind fiberglass material, you can check this out
Full AC Style Body kits (For BMW E90) For Sale | sgCarStore

there is also PP material

if you want mtech, i would go with original kit but i think it is $3.5k+- for the full kit inclusive of installation + spray painting.

Hey wt_know & Shifu,
Thanks for your advices. Durabilty and suitability of material on local roads would never have crossed my mind. Guess I've to make a trip down to Mike's and check out on latest stock. Was offered a used M-Tech carbon fibre (if I'm not mistaken) set for slightly under $3k, all in. Seems like a good deal. I'll go back and check it out. AC kits were really nice on E36 & E46, but is a little over-the-top for me on the E90. Am looking for simpler lines, but thanks for the heads-up though. Cheers guys.

On this note, anybody knows what does 'M' stands for? Monster? Motorsports? etc...

SWC quite expensive. Went down to PML (yes PML) and bought a full kit there and got it installed at Boss. Its still 30% cheaper than what was quoted by Mike. But on the other hand it could be an E90 thing that you are experiencing - i do not drive an E90.

Re: Buying M-Tech Kit from websites

how do you get the body kit to BOSS ?
ask BOSS to arrange collection from PML ?

I know that when I did mine, I had to use the lobang between front 2 seats for the front & rear bumpers after folding the other seats. And I was using a SUV.

Both SWC and Boss quoted you spray plus installation? I did not realise Boss has an oven or spraypainting equipments.

Basically, being the helpful guys that they are are - they helped me out with the install and the paint job (probably a 3rd party).

Hence I thought you cannot compare the prices between SWC vs Boss, not a like-for-like comparison, even though I patronise both.

Re: Buying M-Tech Kit from websites

Try Kbs. Got my OEM m kit there. Good workmanship and service. Sometimes reputable doesn't mean anything. I got on a few occasions bought items online from so called reputable sellersbut in the end never gets my items even I had made payment.
