Re: brakes making squeaky sound...

Very normal if you're using original brake pads. Nothing much can be done about it.

Re: brakes making squeaky sound...

I also have this problem after PML change my brake pads... I tahan for like 6 months until buay tahan then i brought it in again. Now they told me to change my brake disc. But they say that the disc is still usable so now still continuing to tahan the squeaking sound..

Re: brakes making squeaky sound...

I have the same noise after changing my brake pad+disc. Two weeks ago, my brake noise went away after sending in to J4C for other repair.

Re: brakes making squeaky sound...

Hi, How much did you pay for your brake pads+discs changeout? I'm planning on getting mine changed in next servicing.

Thanks man!

I paid 265 for a pair of front disc+pad, 245 for a pair of rear disc+pad, 90 for labour.

May I know if the prices are for original discs and pads or aftermarket?

Re: brakes making squeaky sound...

It is for original parts. Replaced at J4C.

Hi,

Had the same problem with my E46 320. After much cleaning it was much better. Have to admit my brakes are starting to produce screeching brake noises.

I am surprised PML is unable to fix your problem.

Re: brakes making squeaky sound...

OKie...

I try and explain brake squeal. Brake squeal occurs as a result of a few ways.

First, the pad surface contacts the discs squarely. This is the same on bicycles. When you adjust the pads on your bike to contact the rims squarely (meaning the leading and trailing edges touch the rim at the same time) the brakes squeal and judder as the leading edges catch the rim and bounce off. This usually occurs when non original pads are used or the shims are not placed back on. Why? Some original pads (like textar) have a little scalloped gap on the inner pad (the one behind the disc) to reduce the clamping pressure on the leading edge of the brake pad. The shims have the same function. Some shims look like half a circle lying to one side. Engineers aim to reduce the pressures on the leading edge and on the inside of the disc. If you use non-original pads and the car does not have shims, you can reduce this noise by placing a small sheet of aluminium can material over the TRAILING finger of the brake calliper.

Second, The pads have worn down together with the discs and there is a slight lip on the edge of the brake discs. This lip rubs against the side of the brake pads and do not experience the full clamping forces, hence squealing. This can be reduced by filing down the edges of the pads with a bastard file to create a small slope.

Third, your pads have worn down to the wear indicator and the small strip of metal is rubbing on the disc. Solution Change PADS... heee hee..

Cheers
