Hi anyone here encounter the brake padel feelling hard when you 1st stepping the padel and start the engine, it happen only when the car parked after long period of hours, say more then 24hrs.
It back to normal after the engine has been started. Please advice thank you.:whythis:

Re: Brake padel feel very hard when stepping

same for my car.. think its probably normal? well at least i hope so. its all good after the engine starts.

Re: Brake padel feel very hard when stepping

i think thats a sign to warn you that your engine is cold. only happens to me if i didnt drive for a long time. lets say if i just parked my car for an hour and the engine is warm i doubt u will get that heavy break pedal. since e90s dont have engine temp. i think this is bmw budget way of indicating!

Re: Brake padel feel very hard when stepping

This is a normal consequence of a brake servo. Brake servos use the engine to create a vacuum to amplify the power of your stepping foot. When your engine is shut down, SOME residual vacuum exists (at least to help you brake your car if your engine quits at 200km/h) but this vacuum will deplete over time.

with vacuum the brake will be soft, without vacuum the brake will feel hard.

nice one lionel you were close

Re: Brake padel feel very hard when stepping

what Cays said is 110% correct

its not a defect. I think what PML did to your car is way out of the ordinary, what did they fix? put a vacum tank in there?

that other thread is on the wrong track to, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a hard brake pedal before starting. The booster has to build up vacum. Every single car i have ever owned in my 24 years of driving is exactly like that, no matter what brand.

its not a fault

if the "fault" is fixed, all they did was put a vac tank in, this is usually only for hi performance cars with large lobe camshafts that will genertae zero vacum at idle

Besides putting a vaccuum tank in, they can also get rid of the vacuum leaks which might happen. On several other cars, the vacuum stays for a few days. 1 day is a little short for total vaccuum loss on street cars.

Re: Brake padel feel very hard when stepping

Thanks all. So can i say that this is normal for E90 and can i just ignore it?

Re: Brake padel feel very hard when stepping

i'm having the same signs too...did ask my CSA some months back, his explanation was also the brake servo/ vacuum issue that caysman highlighted. shd be all right.

Re: Brake padel feel very hard when stepping

could be the brake booster having problem...i changed mine a month back...but mine's a e36..
