BMWP Exhaust

Need some advise....

On LTA website quote ,"If you are replacing your vehicle's exhaust system with one that is designed and manufactured by the vehicle manufacturer for your vehicle model, you need not seek LTA's approval."

Does that mean that I can import the BMWP exhaust meant for my ride and install it myself without getting LTA approval? Since the exhaust is build for my model?

Any help is appreciated...

As long as the exhaust parts bears the BMW symbol you can because it is something like a replacement OEM parts.

Re: BMWP Exhaust

Because from what I know...my pipe to end box is whole pic..so they have to cut to be able to install the BMWP exhaust....

My ride's E81..

Not true.. As its under BMW performance (which is consider after market parts for BMW) you still need the actual cert from the exhaust (JASMA) & have it inspected & approved by LTA. (Dark side no need say lar)

So far the only BMW performance exhaust (Muffler) that is approve by LTA with cert are only @ PML / Munich Automobiles. You can purchase a used (2nd hand) set but make sure its from PML. They will provide the necessary papers, installation & LTA inspection. (So far the only exhaust make than Ive come across which is FOC on transfer of ownership:p )

Cheers ~~ :)

Allow me to add on....if u were to get a pre-owned set, importantly, you MUST get hold of the LTA approval cert from the previous owner, else, PML will not entertain you to brin your car to LTA for inspection. At least tat was what i was told by PML Parts Manager wen i was gettin my pre-owned Performance Muffler :uhhh:

Hi het..

not necessary to optain the cert from previous owner (ofcos if he/she has would be better) Most important thing is, the exhaust must be installed by PML, just get the owner vehicle number can already.

Mine was installed, inspected thru PML & have the cert from PML & LTA. I do not have anything from previous owner except a reciept from PML with the car plate on it when it was purchase.

What Im suprise to know is that ownership transfer is not charged (FOC) which most after market brands of exhaust do charge for ownership transfer.

Cheers ~~ :)

Re: BMWP Exhaust

So LL got to buy and install by pml lah.. Damezz.. Thinking of importing it directly as I'm sure would be much cheaper...than why the lta website say no need leh...

LTA says no need is whereby the product is stock / oem stock.

Performance exhaust are after market parts, just like Remus, Super Sprint, Sebrings etc etc.. thus needs e cert.

Cheers ~~ :)

Re: BMWP Exhaust

yup. if the car comes with performance exhaust as factory fitted, that's ok as it already gets approval when bringing the model in.
if it's not, it's a performance accessories upgrade that need "inspection" whether it's made by oem or 3rd party

I see.....so the parts manager smoke me lah....in any case, I do have the receipt of the previous owner but do not have the intention to have it certify at LTA as i will be trying to smoke my way out when i'm due for inspection. The good thing is that the mufflers bears the Bimmer logo, I can just play ignorance and say thats OEM mah.....or i bot the car pre-owned and it comes with it.....:yummie:

Re: BMWP Exhaust

Think there isn't any tuv cert. Or any installation guide for pe exhaust. As it's one of the original part for the car.

Tat was my previous ride. I thot they wont ask for my cert (which I kept in @ home) but ending up I need to go back, take my cert then re-visit them again for e inspection. :(

Also saw a guy stuck there for mid-pipe / exhaust issue.. Ending up he visited lane 8 :yikess:

Steam experiences for me ~~

Cheers ~~ :)
