BMW Performance brakes - any feedback?

Hi all, anyone upgraded / changed their stock brakes with the Performance brakes set from BMW? Any feedback?

A pic of the front axle brakes below:

Thinking of upgrading current stock brakes on my ride and looking at different options and pricings.

Cheers,
Bryan

Re: BMW Performance brakes - any feedback?

Bryan, i think there were some feedbacks on the brakes before. Do a search.

Re: BMW Performance brakes - any feedback?

Although I have not tried other aftermarket brands like Brembo, but I love the brakes on my ride. It gave me the confidence on the road. Althought not much e-braking required, but its always able to bring my vehicle to a halt before the red-light camera snapped. Also helps in negotiating corners especially downhill.

Re: BMW Performance brakes - any feedback?

Is it possible to make the comparison - between upgrading to stock 335 brakes and these BMW performance brakes?

Re: BMW Performance brakes - any feedback?

BMw performance brakes r definitely better. they r upgrades from stock brakes.

Re: BMW Performance brakes - any feedback?

i recall reading that the only "not-so-good" point is the brake is heavy compare to brembo / other aftermarket bbk

I think they're a good and affordable upgrade if you are driving anything less than a 335. Overall I'm happy with them.

The rotors are smaller and if I recall from my research, the pad area is also slightly smaller as compared to the 335 front brakes.

The 335 calipers are sliding calipers while these are 6 pot calipers made by brembo.

They are the same set of brakes found on the 135 but painted yellow instead of black.

They are heavier than an equivalent aftermarket 6 potter.

They fade just as fast as the 335 brakes.

If i recall correctly the dust seals are not of as good quality as that used in the more expensive BBKs like Brembo or Alcon (BUT should no be a problem unless you track heavily. There's a sticky on it on BRAKE ISSUE WITH 135i CALIPERS - BMW 1 Series Coupe Forum / 1 Series Convertible Forum (M1 / tii / 135i / 128i / Coupe / Cabrio / Hatchback) (BMW E82 E88 128i 130i 135i)).

The yellow looks striking from under the rims but are difficult to keep clean.

To change the brake pads you need to remove the entire assembly. There is no quick release mechanism unlike the more expensive BBKs from Brembo and Alcon.

There is more freaking dust as compared to stock unless you change to pads like cool carbon.

Finally, the rear matching 2 pot calipers and rotors do not fit on a 3 series as far as i know.

That's all:)

Re: BMW Performance brakes - any feedback?

If I set $3k as a guide for the costs of the BMW performance brakes (front set only +installation), are there better alternatives out there? I am not familiar with other aftermarket brake kits out there. I mean, I have heard (and seen) many examples of Brembo brake kits but that's about it, and I know that Brembo brakes are priced at the premium level.

Re: BMW Performance brakes - any feedback?

Haha same position as i was in last year.

From what i managed to find. The answer is no.

The BMW Performance brakes seem to be the best bang for buck in terms of quality unless you want to go for brembos, alcons, stoptechs.

You could pm wilman to see if he can find something else within your budget. He's the expert around here.

You could try asking if juzzforcars is still running the stoptech caliper promotion. They'll be around 4 k for the fronts after discount if i'm not wrong.

I have just upgraded to BMW Performance Brakes (Front & Rear) for my 120i Cabriolet since 2 weeks ago. I am very happy with the performance, look and sense of originality! Definitely is value for money:D

Re: BMW Performance brakes - any feedback?

These brakes are not allowed on the 335 E9X isn't it????

Your stock rotors are bigger & performs better.

Your only choice is aftermarket BBK like Brembo or Stoptech.

so its better to get 335 brakes than performance?

If you really want better braking, 335 stock brakes are more than enuf for 320.

If you want to track or have the $ to spend & want the super chio look & stopping power, then go for a pure Brembo / Stoptech BBK.

Re: BMW Performance brakes - any feedback?

sounds like performance brake is more like cosmetic enhancement nia :D

Re: BMW Performance brakes - any feedback?

not true. if you track and very anal on performance, you need BBK for its braking power, precision, lightweight, heat dissipation, etc
for instanace on the track, you brake from 200kmph to 100kmph at last minute for cornering

Re: BMW Performance brakes - any feedback?

yes. bmw performance brake @ $2.8K+ ... that's as good as you can get liao ... cannot compare with brembo/stoptech/ap-racing/etc
by the way, bmw performance brake is oem from brembo
bkk got 4/6/8/12 pots !!! to each its own in term of expectations and budget $
you need bbk to match your vorsteiner cs-01 liao ... hehe but the bmw performance brake rotor is too small for your 19" la
