Hello fellow beemerbrothers ... just want to know if there's a possibility the built in bmw business radio cum cd changer can play back mp3 cds ... i dont wish to change the built in stereo but is there someway to upgrade the firmware to enable the player to read discs? im wondering abt this because i was reading a benz forum whereby 2003 w211 e classes had their firmwares updated in 2004 to allow them to play back mp3 cds straight from the factory ... gotta call c&c here as well to find out if they are offering this to 2003 w211 owners as well .. unless any of you guys also got some idea about this la ... den i mus really kow tow you la .. haha ..

Re: BMW Business + MP3 Playback

i think only cars built in MY 2005 get the mp3 compatible HU. i suggest u go find some "fault" with yours and have it replaced under warranty with a 2005 one.

Re: BMW Business + MP3 Playback

I know the business cd MY05 can play mp3, but if a business casette player MY05 + changer will play mp3?

Re: BMW Business + MP3 Playback

I asked my SA if the NAV coming on the 05 M3 can play MP3s he said only the new 7 series can do that? Now i'm confused.

Can it or can it not? Hmm..

Re: BMW Business + MP3 Playback

ok update ... e46s wont be able to play mp3s most likely with the built in business cd changer ... checked with the pml workshop

Re: BMW Business + MP3 Playback

It's determined by the CD changer.

In order to play MP3, u can change ur CD Changer to Alpine CD changer.

U will need to get a adaptor socket to swap from the factory adaptor to fit into Alpine CD changer

Hello bro,

can please explain if you have any changes done to your car or if you have pro radio or NAV or anything? Because from what i heard it is not possible unless you change the cd-changer.

Thanks!

i don't have NAV nor have i done anything to my car's audio. It came fresh from the factory with the ability to play MP3 files. However, i must clarify that i am only able to do this by inserting my disc into the CD slot found on the headunit. It doesn't work if i try to play the disc from the CD changer. my HU is also able to read CDRWs as well, although again, not via the CD changer.

weather permitting, i'll be going for the meet up this sunday; i'll be happy to show you then if you want. i'm sure that if a 2005 Z4's HU can do it, a 2005 M3's ought to be able to as well. if not, tell you what, i'll "loo gee" a bit and swap my Z4 for your alpine white M3. steady bo?
