Aircooled Porsches....

Sorry if I missed something, but which E30 are you looking for? Or just any E30 for a project? :)
I have lots of projects in mind, with the leading 2 being the stripper miata thing or an E30 thing.

I am 38, I grew up looking enviously at E30s they are so lovely. The front especially. recently the attention given to the E30 M3 tipped the scales and I will want to embark on an E30 project.

I was in KL recently and looked at a few candidates to take over. They are in great condition, too great to do any project work, it'd be a sin.

Yes most of the work I'll do in KL with my brother there. But I'm still looking for a below average example, to do up like Louis' one exterior wise, but suspension I'm going for broke, and the powertrain target is 200HP at the crank.

That should give me a good cruiser and occassional time trackday.

But my timeframes are galactic considering the workload at this time. (doesnt' seem that way from the way I post though ... but meetings are somewhat boring)

I know EXACTLY what you mean... :)

For me, the attraction is in the way they drive i.e. old school low slung, tail happy, pivoting around the front wheels, and in reliving the fun I had with the two E30 325i's I owned when I was younger.

I've looked at various E30s in Singapore over the past two years or so, and seriously considered buying a 1991 316iA 4 door (1 owner) and an 1989 320iA 4 door (1 owner then, 3 owners now). Most of the E30s left around here are sedans, and many of them are autos. Most of them are also the later facelifted cars with the plastic bumpers and deeper panels over the rear wheels.

I also briefly saw a 1983 chromie 320i 2 door 5 speed that a friend was considering, and that has had extensive work done on it. It was nice but the price was a bit higher than my friend wanted to spend. I didn't consider that car at that time (but might revisit the idea now!).

The fourth E30 was a 1987 chromie 320i 4 door 5 speed, but that's a story for another day... :)

Please please pardon the ignorance because I am not familiar with Bimmers; I know the newer ones are sent to BVO, J4C etc etc but for an older classic like the E30, is there an outfit that can do something like what was done to the 911 in this thread? Anybody remembered the 3.0CSI from the 70s? Now that was a beauty. :)

man, I have the M600 which has no camera, else, I'd post already.

Were there any M3 E30 in Malaysia? There was one parked in Bangsar, I waited and waited for the owner until oxygen finished still never came back, so I went back home at 1am ... no luck. But it `looked' authentic though I am not an authority - it had flared fenders, a big wing, and white with the special M stripes (obviously painted on). It was beautiful.

Re: Aircooled Porsches....

A couple of guys I know took part in the Merdeka Endurance race in an old BMW 6-series. That sounded like a very fun car to start off as a project car.

J4C is rebuilding a 1970s CS or CSL. Think it's in the paint shop now.

Theoretically, if I had an E30... I'd send it to Amos at J4C because he probably maintained it in the past... Two of my cars still go to Bernard at BVO.

yes you can, provided you can prove you were LIVING in a LHD country and bringing your car back into Malaysia. The only thing you have to do, is to put a red `LEFT HAND DRIVE' sign at the back of your car trunk.

If you just wanna buy, but live in Malaysia, get some Datuk to spread some grease around for instant results.

Actually the fish needing a bicycle analogy still holds true.
