Air Con

Hello ! All the expert out there ,

I am currently driving 525i and would like to know if this is normal . My aircon dun seems to be cold in fact it takes approx 2 mins later before i can feel cold air from the time i start my car engine. I have set to internal circulation, auto or manual mode but dun seems to help. It is quite unbearable especially on a hot day. Can anyone give some clues ? Not enough aircon gas ? Wrong setting ? Thanks and appreciate all the feedback.

Re: Air Con

After you start engine, try to rev the engine a little...
You'll feel that the air will be slightly cooler...

Re: Air Con

I had the same problem (but I also had a kind of whining noise for the first 30 seconds of starting up or so, which disappeared if I turned off the aircon) in that it took at least 30 seconds for cold air to come through, then a minute and progressed to 2 minutes, before I finally went into PML and complained.

They changed the air compressor and I am sure it is an upgraded version as this compressor really makes a lot more noise (maybe it's a heavy duty version), the kind you hear from a 7 series and you can hear it winding down as you turn off the engine.

However, it is cold now so I am happy.

Re: Air Con

Thanks you all for your valuable advice. Will monitor for a while before making my way to PML.

Re: Air Con

Looks like a compressor problem if there is a delay in the flow of cold air.

Re: Air Con

never, ever rev your engine, when it is still cold! :screwedu: :yikess:

this is when the engine does not have the oil to lubricate it. it's gonna bare metal on bare metal. that's why cold starts are so detrimental and account for the most engine wear.

and it is also not advisable to switch on your engine and leave the car stationary "just so that the air-con has the chance to cool the air inside the car".

try to move off as soon as your start the engine. this will give a chance for the lube to work its way around the engine, and at the same time work the compressor to cool the air faster. drive off slowly and give the engine a chance to warm up and try not to rev the engine too much.

if the car is too hot (parked directly under the sun), wind down the windows and let the air from outside the car circulate within. it's gonna faster to cool and will use less energy, especially if you leave you air-con in the auto mode.
