Air con spoil

My air con just didn't work today after I start my car. There is a constant weird sound coming from the air vents when ever I turn on the a/c.

I'm driving a 3-4 year old E60 523i, about 45k km mileage... How much would the repair costs?

Re: Air con spoil

Hi tatsit,

did you accidentally activate any wrong button? or it is like that once you turn on the air-con?
send to PML if it is still under warranty....

the knob just below hazard light is central lock

Re: Air con spoil

If there is a wierd sound, could be the air con fan blower is spoilt.
May have to either visit PML or air con specialist for help.
Unlikely press wrong button, as there shouldnt be sound if wrong button is pressed.

yup, i today went moto air at sin min (as recommended by forumers here) but it was closed. planning to go early tml

btw, i read that air con compressor was given 5 years warrenty by PML, is that true for E60?

Re: Air con spoil

Did you see white particles coming out of the vents? If yes, your cooling coil is leaking, this is might be the cause why your air-con is not cold.

Dont bother to go to "normal" workshop to request them to check your aircon, instead you should go to air specialist directly instead. I did went to a reputable BMW workshop who charged me $80 dollars to top up the gas but unable to determine the root cause.

Just becareful and go to those reputable air-con specialist. I have very bad experience a shop named Tomika.

Just sharing my experienced...

Nope. Besides the a/c on/off button and the temp knob, i didnt touch others

Had a similiar situation. Mine has a knob to control which vent to direct the air etc. Turned that knob a few times and the blower started working again.

Don't ask why me that got the blower going .................. it just did.

I didnt see white particles coming out of the vents, but hours before the air con stopped working, i did notice some white smoke coming out of the bonnet. Initially i thought it was the lorry beside, but come to think of it, i think something got fried.

I'm heading to motto air, as recommended by users here.

Thanks for your advice, will avoid that shop :)

I tried turning the knob for fan and temp max, still no cold air :(

Re: Air con spoil

Had a similar experience before, where there was some white smoke, and then the compressor kapuk...

Re: Air con spoil

I just went to motto aire, there is this old uncle helped me diagnose, when he pump gas into the condenser, white smoke came out immediately. So he recommended me to change it. I chose an OEM because its cheaper, but some how I felt a bit regret as I don't know whether it can last.

He still told me my compressor may have problems, may need to change once he change the condenser and diagnose further

Re: Air con spoil

Condensor easy to change. Its right infront of the radiator. Get him to clean out the leaves while he is there. Just do not use taiwanese parts within your cabin....(like evaporator, heater matrix, expansion valve and blower motor) these are a bitch to remove and any problems means another 1-2 days in the shop.

Hey Bud,
me driving e60, remembered when it was only 9 months old? air con suddenly stopped working in the morning...then after driving with windows down, press here and there? it came up....now working fine, but in recent weeks (now car is 1.5 years) is getting abit of super glue smell in morning, after airing it? it's fine.
I also make it a habit to switch off aircon before switiching off engine....

Motoraire should be able to diagnose man...all the best... ;)
