Air Con Console MELT!

Came into my car one morning and realized that the plastic around my aircon controls on my E60 had its finishing crumpled up and flaking off .... Upon investigation, realized that when my dad drove the car the night before, the Ambi Pur air fresherner on my aircon vent had dropped off and my dad put it back on the vent upside down without knowing. Apparently the liquid from the air fresherner leaked onto my centre console and caused the plastic finishing to "melt" off !

Went to see the CSA at PML and was told that, I cant change the plastic cover of my aircon console alone, i would need to change the entire aircon head unit which cost 1.5K ! And worse still, it would be a recon set !

Haiz ... What should i do man?

Check... online for parts? Or Eng Soon? realoem.com for part numbers tischer BMW for international BMW shipped parts.

Sorry to hear that, bro. Didn't realize that the air freshner liquid can be that corrosive. Did you check with Eng Soon for the replacement part ? Or any workshop in the resources link on whether indeed there is a need to change the whole headunit ?

Same thing happen for Lexus IS250.

Bottomline, don't use any kind of liquid air freshener that attaches to the air con vents!

Why don't you consider re-spraying your console? Should be less than $1.5k, plus it would be a new set, rather than a recon one.

yea, air freshener liquid is crazy stuff.... thats y i dun use... *i put a bag of charcoal under the rear carpet instead*

yeap, y not try a respray or sumething? or does Propel have anyting?

actually for some liquid freshener is quite ok.. but not ambipur... haf spilled it on my previous ride ( a civic ) and it really melted the surface of the aircon switches (cuz my air con opening is abv the aircon switches) . Problem solved by spraying the plastic... was already intending to spray the interior panels red, so it gave me a chance to do so...
ambipur liquid type tat puts on aircon vent smells realli nice,but DUN SPILL OR U'LL REGRET..... ...

now my fav is the transparant plastic box with a gel inside.. dunno wat brand it is ,but can easily get from supermarket...

Thanks guys for all the advice !! .... Yah i do remember that the aircon console plastic cover is connected to the aircon unit behind it, saw it when the guys at Robson's were changing my walnut trims to a CF one .. I think i probably need to spray it back man, not sure if can get back the same finishing though Yah probably wont use Ambi Pur already man, checked with some of the SEs ( my ex-colleagues ) at PML and they told me that their customers had similar experiences ... it sucks Hehe ....
