Advice for 4 door 420i Grans Coupe

Hi there folks, a noobie in the continental car scene here. Hope everyone and their families are safe and in good health. Just a short background, I’ve been accustomed to playing with jap cars, last ride was a souped up 450hp Nissan Silvia S15, just turned 46, and have a 12 year old gal, one more on the way in Sept, time to move on to something more classy and can fit a family but yet still fun to play with and I don’t look so apek Settled on a 3 month old, 2nd hand management 420i grans coupe ...... really lovely lovely car and pretty much brand new ...... looks good, drives and feels good, of course nothing compared to my 450hp Monster, but I’m very contented . Would have loved the 428i, but definitely out of my budge, which was fortunate seeing how the world and economy has turned upside down. Was also considering the Audi A5, which was more powerful, but end of the day I fell in love with the 420i becos of it’s comparatively decent performance and definitely better looks which I feel will never grow stale.

I am considering the following upgrades and would appreciate any advice from all the shifus down here, times are bad and trying to source around for aftermarket products which are reasonably priced and good from reliable and trustworthy workshops :

- Bodykits, looking aftermarket M performance design, preferably in carbon fibre ... alternatively can be of PU material, also looking for carbon mirror covers and rear spoilers ..... my days of the car looking too garang and loud are over, going for classy look now

- Rims, the current stock rims look fine to me, was thinking of spraying to something in a darker tone (my ride is metallic mineral gray btw) .... I know pml able to do the spraying, any outside specialist doing the same thing for cheaper? I would rather invest in a big brake set, any lobang for this, was thinking of red brembos

- Tuning, my days of over the TOP heavy duty mods are definitely over hahaha ... just looking for simple tune ups like chip or Ec upgrades to make the ride have a bit more kick, although I know won’t ever be enough to match up to the 428i

Well that’s pretty much it. Sorry for the Long write up, what to do, stuck at home with this stupid CB, so got a lot of time to browse internet and now write essay haha haha. Many thanks in advance for any advice, inputs and recommendations .... Stay safe everyone

Well the following was listed for a f10 bro but you can follow the same things to look at. Loads of things can be picked up from aliexpress or DiY now that theres plenty of time. Enjoy the ride

M TECH bumpers
BM3 stage 1 tune easy to DiY under sgd700 (I'VE done this)
Intercooler and downpipe
BM3 stage 2 ! Tune USD50 more
Rewrap steering wheel and head liner to alcantara leather
Get a 3M full car wrap cheap instead of a respray.
Try your hand at coding your car
https://bimmercode.app/cars/
Steelmate TPMS (I'VE done this)
http://www.steelmate.com.au/p/8659914/steelmate-diy-tpms-tp-71.html
Ask a mobile car polisher to do paint correction then try your hand at ceramic coating (I'VE done this)
https://www.bmw-sg.com/forums/threads/f10-528i-mods-and-maintenance-pics.87979/
Buy every single fluid (brake, coolant, transmission) filter and pads and rotors, engine and transmission mounts bushings, and have your fav workshop refresh it all !
Have your aircon system refreshed with new drier canister and new coolant put in !
Change all leaking hoses and gaskets

After reading, I’m gonna start off with the ceramic coating, the link to avalonking looks pretty impressive, with all the reviews and all that, seems like you can diy, have you ever done it yourself. Thinking of ordering today hahaha, Guess 2 kits will be enough? Also, how often do you have to reapply in reality? I Guess Also, I’ve read that the bootmod3 impressed you the most among the various tuning, where did you get your’s done and how much was it? Also, will this installation affect my pml warranty?

Hey buddy yes i've done it myself (read the thread), 1 bottle was more then enough to cover my 5 series 2x over plus extra. Did all the glass as well. Prices are all stated in my thread as much as I can. I've only had the coating done about a month now they say its good for 2 years with normal car washes no polishing. Do note a paint correction is rec as any micro scratches will be sealed in with the coating. I had a mobile detailer come down and do that portion for me (again read the thread).

Bootmod3 was a DiY as well go read the thread EVERYTHING is there where to buy how much etc etc etc. Most local dealers wanted a lot more to do it and then theres no control when theres a new update for the maps. So far theres already been 2 stage 1 map updates. And yes it'll affect your warranty everything you do affects PML warranty if they wanna get nasty you change rims or tyres also can affect warranty, basic principal is wanna mod don't scared warranty, scared warranty then don't mod. There have been some who have kept warranty by flashing back to stock software before sending in for warranty claims and relocking the ecu.

Read up abt the diy ceramic coating. Understand the car has to be all nicely done up before applying the coating. Just to check, the guys from simplyshine, they came to your place to do paint correction and polish for $168? Before i enquire with them, did this also include washing the car or was that done by you?

They basically did all the prep work includes the car wash as well. I've got a spare bottle of the ceramic coating for sale if you don't wanna wait 3 weeks for it to arrive

Many thanks bro for the offer, but I’ve already ordered and don’t mind waiting as I prefer to have whatever bodykit I choose installed first, god knows when that will be with all these CB going on :)

congrats on the new car. the 4GC is nice, sporty and yet practical.

For bodykit can try to look for site sponsor JDM. For tuning, definitely BM3. You'll never regret this. LOL. Look for William from Bavworks. Site sponsor as well.

Any comments regarding the following? Still sourcing around, one of the better quotes so far :

M Sport bodykit selling at $2350 with spray paint and installation.

$1550 for carbon fiber front lip, side skirt and rear diffuser.
Cf replacement side mirror cover - $298.
Cf double slate front grille - $288.
Cf boot lip spoiler - $275.

BM3 make sure you register the account to YOUR name and password so you can do it next time or update it by yourself. The license can also be sold as its good for 1 transfer. It also comes with a transmission tune so remember to do that when doing your stage 1. I trust you've already upgraded the boost and charge pipe to a metal/alum one ? The stock plastic ones tend to crack and leak boost putting the car into limp home mode if not.

Nope, i havent done jack shit yet hahah .... cant even go anywer how to do anything :) .... yeah i did read abt the potential for the boost and charge pipe to crack, even without any tuning!!!! Why lah they make it out of plastic in the first place, how much weight savings can be made lol ..... btw, any lobang for the pipes? Or regular reliable workshops, as i have to start from scratch again

Once again I prefered to buy online have my workshop install, FTP is best bang for buck as they had a boostpipe and charge pipe combo for sale a while back. I ended up using this local address to order it and had it installed by my workshop. Don't bother about the intake pipe as thats low pressure and will not crack easily despite what other people might insist. There is also little to NO benefit as most site will have you believe as everything is tuned by the ECU as it relearns by itself.

Last I checked top93 does order and install for about $500++ which is quite worthwhile.

I'm not into CF stuff but you can choose to aliexpress most of that or a better alternative is to have it CF 3m wrapped instead. Cheaper, lighter if and when tired can always change the wrap as well.

Thanks for the warm welcome Otar, and rssid, ur feedback and links very very useful. You’re really a hands on and diy guy, must be a lot of fun. I used to be like that, when I was young and single I my workshop was my 2nd home, I remember borrowing my guy’s tools and even cut my own cf wing to make sure that the width complied with LTA hahaha .... now old order lah with 2 kids, got no time and energy ....... which regular workshop do you go to to have your stuff installed? Maybe I can check it out

Hey there Meta Mechanics are pretty good as they are BMW specialists and the service is top notch. Personally I prefer workshops that pritorize their customers intead of the so called more popular ones. Generally you NEVER need a bmw specialist workshop tho unless its to do with transmission or engine work. Most if not ALL competent workshops are able to to normal part replacements and normal reg servicing so just go with the one that suits your budget.

BTW I have 2 kids and a job that fortunately allows me some time to scout around. Also with DiY you get to learn new things instead of paying and just paying people to do it for you.

You got the part about customer service first spot on. And I’m not into those branded ‘atas’ and popular ones unless I really need to and last resort. Btw I bought 3 bottles of the ceramic, buy 3 and got one free, cos gonna be for 2 cars, was quite a good deal
