Dear memebers,
I am new to the forum just joined today. Presently i own a benz and am seriously considering buying either the 520i or the 523. I have been comparing between a 20 month old 520i to a 6 moth old 523. The price difference is approx $20000. Can any member advise on the differrences between the two cars besides the obvious engine capacities. greatly appreciate any advise on the pro and con and feedback from members who own such models. I am also concerned as to why there are several less than 6 month old 523's in the resale market.

Avoid the 520i, definitely go for the 523i

You'll find the engine in the 523i is much smoother, and it doesn't feel as underpowered as the 520i (I've driven both). There won't be active steering in the 523i, but I feel it's actually better for the car as the AS system does load up the engine quite a bit and both the 520i and 523i will be better cars without it.

Not sure why there are many newish 523i(s) on the market, perhaps some of these folks decided to switch to the new GS300? Anyway, do some research on these cars (service history etc.) there may be a good deal there....

Like Eggz said, avoid the 520i as it doesn't seem to cope well with the Active Steering. As for the used 523s, I suspect they were demo rides. If u have the budget, do consider the 523i.

Thanks for the advise eggz and T6,
On your advise I had done some further research and drive tests today, the 523 is definitely better endowed with extras such as the parkatronic with display and rear retractable shade etc. and the ride is much much smoother. I also found out that there presently 5 units of four month old 523's with below 5000km available at 155k as compared to PM's 175k for a new unit. Apparently this 523,s were used for VIP X-port for some recent convention and released by PM therafter. I have booked the unit with the least milage with just 1680km, on it.
