Great exhaust note from the M3 V8, just wondering whether the V8 on the M3 as compare to the S5 V8, will they sound the same? My business partner is interested in getting the S5, and I am wondering whether they will sound the same, anyone had experienced in it?

I'm afraid u are comparing 2 totally different ride my friend.....I'm not going into performance...so if u r juz asking about exhaust note...S5 comes no where....absolutely no where close to M3...unless u mod...test driven S5 n was disapointed, ,when u are in it, u won't think there is a V8 inside..same like 4.2L Q7...but nevertheless, S5 looks sweet of course..

Yeah I agree that S5 looks are awesome... Therefore not all V8 will produce the deep exhaust note, which is such as waste. I heard that even for the R8 which is a V8 on the older version, the exhaust note is consider pretty quiet for a supercar/

Let say M3 being 10 on a scale.
Where will you put the 335i.
What is ur take.
Wanna hear some review from 335i drivers.
I test drove the e90 M3 Competition Package 2 weeks ago at Munich. Joel also brought us on a wild ride on the X5M.

The e90 M3 was chosen because of the much touted sharper handling than the e92 M3. Some attributed it to the shorter wheelbase of the sedan, but on paper, both E90 and E92 M3s share similar wheelbase number (length 108.7 inches, width 60.5/71 inches for the coupe, 71.5 inches for the sedan). Overall, the E92 is slightly longer (181.8 inches vs the sedan's 180.4 inches) and narrower (77.8 inches vs the sedan's 78.9 inches). This perhaps is the reason of the preference of the sedan over the coupe.

Anyway, back to the comparison. In my shallow layman terms, these two cars are very different. One's a bubbly and energetic Fiona Xie, the other a reserve but intelligent Jeannette Aw, if you may. I reckoned I have done quite a fair bit to my 335, if not insane. The bulk of the mods were targeted at a steeper (initially, and later more linear) torque curve and the handling aspects. The 335, if modded on power and handling, can be menacing on the streets/straights, but the heatsoak issue is still a pain to contend with. The torque is phenom on higher boost, but it is hardly linear. The pull starts to taper and dip after the 3rd or 4th gear. The M3 Comp is much more linear in its pull, even in the higher gears. This is not to say it has lesser low end torque - in fact, you will not feel the lack of it.

The best is still the handling aspects - it is so fun trying to throw the car around sharp corners, the resolute chassis and the suspension set-up is just too perfect. On my current ride, te handling mods, even with Qaife, JIC coils, camber, M3 control arms/bushings, and M3 strut, still could not match the chassis of the M3 (e90 or e92) around corners. The last time I felt similar in that M3 Comp was in a friend's Cayman S. Probably not close to the mid-engine setup, but the closest in the BMW stable. Front heavy? No leh. Nothing like the C63.

The modded 335 is like a wild raunchy affair, but after one short period, you will feel empty and hollow despite cheaply thrills here and there. After these thrills, the chick will jump up and down the bed asking to be brought to Butter Factory at Fullerton. Yawnz.

The M3 Competition is like a sensitive and savvy relationship. It can be prolonged and gratifying. Hard not to appreciate the ride.... After the thrill, this lady will light a ciggy for you, and ask if you are hungry or if hungry for more..... you would wanna hug her tightly.... I basically stuck the GTR off my nice-car-list after that fateful Saturday. Felt so empty in my car after that.....

No thanks to Joel, Anthony, James and gang at Munich...... for my itch.......

I don't know if I am concentrating on your apt comparisons and my experiences or the car itself. Little brother is still standing after seeing this line.

I knew you will respond to that two comparisons.

The wild chick offers punch and thrill, but never ever lasting.

The sensible woman offers more consistent satisfaction........ hence a different league of gratification.....

Looks like the sensible women will give you more control and revolutinize your manh00d in that case. Lucky I am still single to enjoy between wild and/or sensible one. I am sorry that you have to be committed so soon despite your great deal of experience.

Bro, I beg to differ. Not sure about the M3 specs and the technicals, but I can vouch for Fiona that she is wild, raunchy, yet she will light me a ciggy and SAY SHE IS HUNGRY FOR MORE.

How? Your hypothese all wrong. Fail.

...

good write up.. wow jeannette aw been scratching me itch all this while... hoohohohooo...

by the way.. the competition package set up in terms of suspension rating is it any different? i know it is lower...
i used to drive e60 530i with ARS and when it corner it is flat and gave me confidence.. in the e90 M3 it leans more than i like..(well i have sunroof that tilt the cg abit)..
at sepang... it leans so much i hated it even at super sport suspension mode...

I am purist fool.. does the competition suspension retrofit make a diff? M gurus, comment?
