I think it has always been the case bro.
Only difference is that perhaps we are not so easily pushed over these days.
Frankly I think 9/10 Singaporeans are not confrontational. I will make the biased assumption that they were provoked first.
I think it's a good thing that more of these thingsincidents are reported or even sensationalized. Our "guests" will think twice before they put down or rough up a local.
You don't see AMs reportedly picking fights in our neighbouring countries. Those that did probably ended up dead that's why.

Agree with your comments. Time for us locals to stand up for ourselves more and not get pushed around. Asians generally non confrontational and could be miscontrued as weakness or cowardice.

These days I see aggressive angmo I purposely don't give way to them.

I m not very sure about e 9/10 thingy. I do find locals very easily agitated and get aggressive, when they r proven wrong or told that they r wrong. Below is my personal experience (point form) in ION at the Yummy Yogurt store.

- wanted to order and saw I was at e wrong end of e queue (at cashier's side).
- i walked over to other end and queue behind 3 gals making their order.
- they made payment and my turn, I place my order, get my order & made payment.
- while standing there getting a spoon scope.
- e counter lady asked, 'Sir want flavour u want?'
- e guy at e counter replied; "I dont want to order as u didnt serve me 1st but serve others
- he stepped back, next, a lady next to him, commence placing her order.
- e guy stepped toward e counter & asked counter lady to say sorry (was WTF in my mind).
- I intervened & told him, 'u werent in e queue & why r u asking for apology?'
- and wow, he raised his voice & tell me to shutup and mind my own biz.
- I told him, it is my biz as it is indirectly implying i cut queue.
- he start to walk over & ordered me to STFU (said to my face) and mind my own biz
- he went back to scold e lady (she was serving a lady then) & continue to accuse her.
- next, (determined to piss him off) I said 'Sir, pls say sorry to her (pointing at counter lady).
- Counter lady told me, it is okay Sir. I said, nope it is not when e guy is unreasonable.
- wow wow, he again came towards me raising his voice even louder.
- then he walked away while the lady (who just ordered Yogurt) called him 'dear, stop it'.
- I was like 'damn, need to get him to throw a punch'....
- I called out, Sir, u cannot leave till u say sorry to counter lady.
- he came towards me for 3rd time shouting, I said 'if u dare pls hit me but don't regret'.
- his female partner immediately pulled his hand & said 'dear, let's go please'.
- he turned & was leaving with her. I said, Sir, u forgot to say sorry.
- he turned again but his partner pulled him away again.
- I decided, enough of pissing him off said, 'Ms, count your BF lucky'.
- the counter lady, said 'thank you Sir, u don't have to do it'.
- I said it is ok, i am just trying to be a good citizens and hate to see injustice.

Such incidents with locals r not my 1st time, so I m doubtful it is 9 in 10 are not confrontational, or I just manage to meet mostly e 1 in 10.

In many ways, Sporeans' behaviour is circular. Westerners are known to talk brash, loud, arrogant and in confident (or talk cork) manner whichever you see it. Years of westernised education among Asians had imploded a major cultural behaviour which deviates from our old roots. We have learned to speak, act and behave like them. Not many are as sleek as them but we attempt to (yeah you get the idea.. the slang, the pose etc). To addon to that, we have so much trash on TV these days from the west, ranging from reality tv to pop idols etc. Not helping social ettiques at all.

So in many ways, it is the western influence butting back at the westerners. They used to be shocked why asians do this to them. Now they are used to it. Because we are as highly educated, affluent, talk-corking kings as them. The tide is changing. And they know it. To survive, these westerners got to be pushed around. Just go take a look at the china cities of beijing and shanghai. The expats are calling them tough destinations to live in. Spore, by comparision is mild to them because the locals' resistance is weak. With govt support, they think they are on the winning side as well. But this is slowing changing..

On the point of AM riding bikes as pointed out by another forummer, yes %^$&!!!! to them. Your Cannondales are nothing. Let's talk about timing. See you at the finishing line.

actually I have seen road rage fights in UK and US...Singapore's so-called road rage fisticuffs would look like little girls playing barbie dolls

in US or UK.... people fight with their cars.... as in literally destruction derby sometimes. if all else fails... guns come out in US, knives / metal poles come out in UK.

ask you.... you dare use your beloved car to whack the other fella? the answer for most is 100% absolutely NO.... you siao ah... my NCD kena affected, I want to sell my car as 'accident free', which paint shop is best?
