Bigger the better? ICE gurus pls share with your views and experience. Consider it's used for a small sedan like E46 and install in a sealed enclosure.

Cheers

Re: 10" Sub vs 12" Sub

i m not a guru but bigger is not necessarily better. I know of a very experiecned ICE hardcore high-end player who uses 2 x10" for one of his car, and one 12" for another. Well..i think he also has about 6 12" for his van..for SPL purposes.

one regular prize winner in many competitions i know uses a 12"..if fact most of them uses 12", its a matter of how many. I know a fren who recently wanted to change his 12" sub to a 15" one but his installer, a very reputable player, discouraged him vehemently (which is a nice change).

it realy depends on your setup.
i will try to locate one article i have which also claimed that nobody can absolutely tell u which is better...but most would use two if using 10".

u will probably hear different opinions from another source...

Re: 10" Sub vs 12" Sub

IMHO, one 10" is a liitle bit lacking unless its a monster 10", and backed with oodles of power.

What's the typical differences? 10" will have a lighter mass, faster response, needs less power but will not go as low as 12". 12" when given nice power will outperform a 10".

Price diff? Usually just 10% more, and box volume will be a bit bigger but the difference is worth it.

For me, its either 2 x 12", or 3 x 10" :))) E46 may be small, but if space is used wisely, you can fit a nice sized (sealed) box AND still able to flip open boot floor to access the spare tyre.

Re: 10" Sub vs 12" Sub

Thx for sharing guys, so I guess quantity is the way to go, would need to plan how much space I could sacrifice though.

But seriously, let's say if only 1 sub is used, both using the same amp, 2 x 360 watts to be exact, vented enclosure, 10" or 12"? Noticeable difference?

Meetup is coming, so how about jamming up some bass this time?

Re: 10" Sub vs 12" Sub

most people i know use 2 10s.. i think it's good enough, was oriiginally going to go with that set up too.

Re: 10" Sub vs 12" Sub

Going from 8" to 10" to 12" on the same ride, I prefer the free hang 10" natural sound that i used to have; though i'm on the boxed 12" now. Of course 12" does deliver more deeper power when u need to listen to Axel Frog now... :lol2:

wonder if i can free hang a 12"........

hehe...i think ace_singapore is confused liao after all these comments. Welcome to ICE keke..

theoretically the bigger the cone, the deeper it can go. But some 5.5" can whack other-brand 6.5", so it depends.

You can have free-air subs but choose the right one.
Again, some argue free-air not as controlled, some prefer free-air.
