Are these any different given the first number differs in SG context?

Also how many of you are using a 30 grade oil on your car?

Yo Ah Beng bro,
I am using 0W-30 from Esso. Not sure of the difference in the number though...

Re: 0w-30 and 5w-30 and 10w-30

the lower numbers correspond to the viscosity of the oil under cold conditions. The W means winter (oil suitable for winter use). For 0W30, means the oil is 0 weight under cold conditions. For 10, its 10wt.

A 0wt oil will flow better than a 10wt when its cold because its thinner (lower wt = thinner). Once its warm up, it will become a 30wt oil.

However, for tropical climate like SG, it doesn't matter as weather is summer for the whole year. We don't experience sub zero temps.

Re: 0w-30 and 5w-30 and 10w-30

how often do you guys change the 30wt oil ?

One big thx u to FUTRON.SIM . Ah beng understand liao(stupid chee-cher didnt teach this one in physics class last time). I also just change my oil to 5w-30.

if you're boosted, best to change every 5k i guess, otherwise 8-10k would be ok.

Every 5k km?:woowooo: :whythis: . Compromise every 7k km can? kekeke.

Wah lau if every 5k km for my kind of driving I will be changing my oil every 2 months. the workshop sure gimme VIP pass.

BTW the stupid BMW oil filter can last how long? if change at 5k km the oil filter reuse ah?

Re: 0w-30 and 5w-30 and 10w-30

Beng, re your SMS, your turbo motorboat should be using 5W-40 for the Torco SR5 oil......

Re: 0w-30 and 5w-30 and 10w-30

ABD,
ur 335 uses 30 grade ?
if yes, then way too thin for our local climate. If you ask me, any car here should use nothing less than 40!

NO NO!! Never reuse oil filter!!

Btw, you might want to use 40wt oil for your 335i instead. Cause I think 30wt is a little too thin for turbo engines.

One good oil for excellent protection. Castrol Edge! You lose a litle power but protection is definitely better.

From what I understand, most engine wear occurs at startup. And before your engine is at operating temperature, the engine oil in your car is too thick. (even in our climate)

Although we don't experience the sort of "Winter" temperatures here in SG, choosing a 0W-30 oil means the oil is likely less thick at start up less versus a 10W-30 oil. So I'd get a 0W-xx oil where possible, or at most, a 5W oil.

yeap. first time using 5w-30. Try la.

previous oil was castrol edge 0w-40. maybe its just me but I find it lousy n noisy. people on e90post(ok I know its in USA) uses 30wt oil, so I see no reason why cant use in SG. I know our weather is hotter but so is USA's summer. ive also done some research on the internet n Mobil actually also manufactures a grade of oil called Mobil racing oil in 0-20 and 0-30wt. Said to give good protection but 'not reccomended for street use' bcos of emission or something. I cannot find this particular type here so hamtarm a 5w-30 lor
