which car to get 523 or 525 or 330

hi,

need advice on which car to get here are the prices quoted....
330 $203k
523 $172k
525 $208k
530 $245k

i am a current 318 driver wanted an up grade, initially to a 523 at 172k.but another 22k i can get a 525 which is very tempting.so i am now willing for a 525 at 208kbut then the 330 is only 203k more power and omph factor but smaller car.

stuck and can not decide 525 or 330.the 530 is above my budget.

can the brothers here kindily advise which one to get and are these the best price offered

1)between 523 (172k)and 525( 208k)save alot if i get 523
2)330 and 525


i want power and comfort thats my problem but not rwilling o spend 245k for 530.

get the 330i my friend.. firstly it's been on the market for a shorter time, secondly in my own opinion, it looks much better, and thirdly, the size difference isn't that much between the 5er and the 3er; both will seat four people comfortably.

anyway, you buy a bmw for performance FIRST and comfort second.. haha.. so put your priorities right man! the 330i. saify's recommendation.

also, the three litre unit in the 330i is new and better than the older 525i engine. drove it in the new 730i for a month, and although it didn't have that much poke for a big car, it was nice and revvy, light and very refined. highly recommended.

I'd go with the bigger displacement. But road tax, fuel consumption etc higher.

get a 525 n mod it....its a very comfy car. make sure it has dynamic drive too.

yea i wanted the power of 3.0 litre but then its another 3 series.right now i dont like the back side of the 3 series looks soft.

youre right i may want the power and regret if got something less....still cannot decide as i know 5 series got good build quality and comfort..

i do a lot of driving back to malaca or ipoh..long cruise back.

thinking hard about the 525 then can cruise all the way back to ipoh in comfort.how many horses do i get after the mod and the cost of the mod.

is dynamic drive not standardin the 525?

Not worth spending money in modding on Bimmer. Tons of money spent n yet get little in return.

IMO, want power, buy a powerful car and stick wif it stock.

I think in terms of looks, most people will prefer the 5 to the 3 series. In terms of built quality, the 5 is also better.

So I think u shd consider a 5 series and in that regard, since u are moving from a 318i, a 523i will do and then spend a couple of thousand dollars chipping it. In my opinion, the price difference between the 523i and 525i is juz too great to justify getter the latter and will be lost in the resale mkt. I think a 523i makes practical sense.

But for myself, I will get the 330i juz coz I drove it at ADT and I love it.

but 523 n 525 same roadtax...very sian feeling. also 523 dun hv cruise control, no active steering....rims as well...i think if u cruise to msia often....go for the 5s....big difference in comfort feel.

If you want comfort plus performance and the 530i is already beyond your budget, I suggest getting the 520i. Reason??

1) Cheaper to buy
2) Cheaper to maintain

3) Extra money is MORE than enough to do serious mod to make your car fly faster than any 530i , believe me. (It is not true that you spend tons of money to mod a bimmer and get very little gains. Most people who say this in the first place you notice are those that CUMULATIVELY spend a lot on a series of small mods but not willing to do the serious stuff that actually MAKES a difference. Go read foreign BMW websites... come on.. there are even modded M5's churning more than 1000bhp! Go to Hamann website and check out the E46 M3 Las Vegas! My friend actually saw the latter in action .... moving from standstill at 3rd gear resulting in a wheel spin?! Not fast enough? I rest my case...)

4) Most Singaporeans who buy bimmers are non enthusiasts who largely buy it in the name of image. Therefore most who want a 3er will get the 318i (or 320i in the case of the E90) and those who wants a 5er will get the 520i. So buying the 520i will make it that much easier to sell it in future.

Just my 2 litres worth.. heh heh...

thank you all for all the input now i am even more at loss and muddled which to get....some say even wait till next year got better price but like that forever not buying.

For me, its neither of the cars you have listed.

For $172K (only) I would go for the 325i Manual instead.
This is the latest indent price I checked with PML just last weekend.

The $30K I save (from not getting a 330i or 525i) can be used for other things.

I will get the same 218 BHP power as the 525i, but in a slightly smaller package.
Due to shorter wheelbase, its handling around corners at speed would be much better. I would lose some ride quality though. So depends on what you want.

0-100 for 325i manual is very good ... 7.3 seconds I think. Not quite near the Golf GTi 2.0 TFSI territory though, but close.

For the money on a 325i, you're a bit nearer to 330i performance, but still get to have an IL-6 24v engine. Valvetronic-ECU technology is the only thing I am most concerned with, re its 'newness' for this engine block/design. To me, its still a little bit 'unstable' (looking at a number of E90 engine-related issues surfacing lately) and the level of unreliability is still a bit too high for my liking. I'll let others 'bang their tables' first and perhaps switch to a 325i after its mid-life-cycle facelift stage.

Size-wise, the new 3-ers are not very far off from the 5-ers.
Personally, I wouldn't get the 523i. De-spec'd 2.5L engine and (relatively) sluggish.

I thought the 330 handles great, drives great and sounds great (even with stock exhaust).

Bottomline:

Get the 330 if you want power and performance.

Get the 5 series if you want comfort.
